Just got my MRI results. I have my follow up with the ortho in 2 weeks.

MRI shows mild central stenosis from C3-4 to C5-6 due to disc abnormalities and congenital short pedicles. Also, a 3mm disc protrusion at C3-4.

Anyone on the OT dealing with this? Any advice or recommendations would be much appreciated. I'm 39.

Please do yourself a favor and don’t get started on opiate painkillers; it’ll be the worst decision you’ll ever make, and I know from experience.

Also, don’t let your doctor talk you into having surgery. I know at least 4 people that have had back surgery and every one of them is worse off than they were before.

My cousin has something like this called fibromyalgia. Luckily his workman’s comp paid out so he didn’t have to sell his boat or anything

Hahahahaha!!

Glad he can milk the system and still be able to go out on his boat!

Well played!

Thanks for your reply. My concern is the arm weakness and headaches I'm dealing with.

Yes, have had it since 1970 after aircraft crash into water, compression fracture. Chiropractor daily 2 mi walking kept me off the operating table, though went through many years of discomfort. Currently pain free and have been about 7 yrs. Good Luck

You and Cooper Manning have something in common. Of course, the difference was that he was an athletic wunderkind, far better than his brothers, cut down before his prime by it. And you're you.

Raises Hand - I've had a L-4/5 disk issue for years

Last MRI showed stenosis

Mine causes left leg pain if I stand a while on a hard floor or walk long distances, been fighting it for 20+ years.

I've had surgery, shots, pills etc etc etc

For my cousin that’s the only thing that helps with the pain. If he doesn’t get his fibromyalgia medicine he can’t hardly get out of the bed and his pain is so bad that he is nauseous and vomits all day

Was the stenosis in your neck or lumbar? My doc told me not to do any chiropractic work on the neck.

Not sure about the headaches but the arm weakness is likely a neurological issue, which won’t be helped with opiates.

Have you talked to your doctor about Gabapentin?

There are definitely people who need opiates, but from the pain the OP is describing, opiates wouldn’t help.

Mention Gabapentin next time you see him and get his opinion. I think it would work well for you. I have severe nerve damage from when I got shot and Gabapentin was the only thing that worked.

Lumbar, yeah I can see where i would not do that for neck. It was like 68 visits over a couple months with no immediate relief, I know how painful that is. At one point I could only lay down or stand, no sitting at all was possible, including when eating.

Good Luck

My MIL had it in her lower back, along with bad discs. In 1999 they did surgery, spinal fusion with cages in place of the discs, along with spinal stenosis.

She suffers to this day, and has an implanted tens unit. It's the only relief from the pain, for her.
