"The program offers neighbors who own property adjacent to a blighted lot the opportunity to apply to take care of and eventually purchase such vacant lots," the statement said.
And if the lot happens to be covered in bird shite, they can claim it for the USA.

So you up keep the property for a year, then the value you go up due to the property not being blighted anymore? And that’s supposed to be a win? Why not just pay the delinquent taxes and you own it just like every other place in the state?

Guarantee the first question will be, "Why cantz the city come mows it fer me?"

Pretty smart, assessment probably goes up after being maintained for a year.

I’m just imagining 4 different neighbors rushing out at 7am to mow the lot and claim if

I didn't look at the whole list, but none of them looked like areas someone would want to buy anyway.

Pay 650
Now the property for a year
Get 825 off the assessment price

I guess the incentive is the assessed value is significantly less than the property is worth on the open market. However I assume some of these lots could be given away and people wouldn’t want them.

Most of these lots are between $4k-$10k and aren't in the most desirable of neighborhoods. It would be interesting to see if the neighbors even want to buy the lots.

I haven’t dug through the list but I imagine you can eventually buy these lots for low 5 figures after it’s all said and done. Depending on lot size some might work out as a speculative play. If I was the next door property owner I would definitely look into it.
People bag on these lots being in shitty neighborhoods (they are) but the last NORA auction was full of small lots in crap neighborhoods nearly all sold for way more than you would expect.

Yes. But just buy the lot at auction. $875 off. Mow once a week for March through Nov. so 9 months at let's say three times a month. 27 times into $875 = $32.40 a mow job?

There’s a few at the nora auctions. You have to develop the lot within 365 days, and those lots are small and in shite hoods put they exist.
