Stuff like that is impressive. I've worked up to 3 jobs during a semester to pay my way and still had to take out loans, with TOPS, while living with my parents.
I don't understand how somebody can possibly be fully 100% independent of their parents and still 100% financially support themselves without any help from loans. School combined with living expenses is stupidly expensive for a guy who has to spend a large amount of time at school.

I bet most of the people here who moved out at 18 moved into an apartment or dorm their parents were paying for.
I didn't. Moved out at 18 to go off to college. Pell grants, student loans and a job of my own.
I did move back in for a few months before I turned 19 but then moved in with my bf at the time. Never lived with my parents after that.
I can understand moving back in cause troubles finding a job or going back to school if it's a temporary situation.
But 25 and you've NEVER moved out of your parents house? Yeah that's odd.
Now if you were a Chinese-American girl you get a pass because that is their culture. They live with their parents until they marry usually.

Props to you. I've worked about as many hours as you can work while enrolled in college and still could never even dream about moving out. There's no way I could have come close to affording it without burying myself in debt.

just like being 30 and single? some people are different. there's no point in moving out just to straddle yourself with more debt before you're ready.

18.

I'm not saying you should move out the moment you turn 18 or anything. To each his own. But you should want to at least have a place of your own or with roommates before you turn 25 I would think.
This clearly doesn't apply to you since you moved out and bought a house before all this.

and most people who would move out before 25ish would be living in a place paid for by their parents, costing them even more money than just staying at home.
I highly doubt everyone saying they moved out at 18 were even close to 100% independent then.

I'm getting out as soon as I decide what job I'm taking. Finally gonna have myself a bachelor pad so that I can post in the "What losers are 25 and still living my themselves" threads

No doubt. I was off the payroll, as DadWafer called it, when I graduated.

what if you own the house?
Posted on 3/9/14 at 1:59 pm to TH03
That is true. I had a much different situation than most people. I seriously was sharing a bedroom with my baby sister sleeping on the top bunk of our bunk bed. That kinda motivates you to get out quicker

17 years old and never looked back.

there's nothing wrong with you still living at home. Make sure you're saving up some money while it lasts.

I was zero percent independent but I had a place to bang randoms without having to introduce them to my parents the next morning

The only thing my parents paid for was car insurance and phone ($200/ month). They knew I would live on Ramen Noodles if they didn't

17.
you fricking mellenials are leeches.
and shame on the people my age that allow the free loaders to come back home.
Sure, there are a number of responsible 20-somethings living at home, helping out with the chores, etc. and possibly a few help out with the mortgage payment, but most are just taking their folks for a ride.
