I highly doubt everyone saying they moved out at 18 were even close to 100% independent then.

Was totally independent and had been for years.

I was 14 and the reason was my grandmother (parents were already dead) died. Been on my own ever since.

Jesus! How does that even work?

How old are you?

32.

And just to clarify, the only support I had when I moved out was health insurance until I was 23 years old.

I'm 24 and in said scenario too

Trying to find a two bedroom apt or small house unless my roommate flakes out. Probably beginning of April once I get that pay raise and have saved a couple more weeks

After I graduate I'll be more than happy to move back in if I was to get a job close by. Will be able to save $, and parents have always let me do my own thing. But I don't wanna be there when I'm 25-26.

24, still living at my parent's home.

Father passed away at 17, and my mom started seeing someone else a few years ago, and they bought a house together.

I stay in my parent's house by myself..it's pretty fricking awesome to say the least, but my mom comes over every now and then to check on things and she stays to sleep a few times a month

Once I'm out of college, I'm moving out for sure.

ETA - I pay for my own tuition, vehicle insurance, cell bill..etc. Also my own food unless my mom cooks

Most people who brag about moving out at 18 are still at least partially assisted by their parents.

Exactly. If your parent's are still paying your bills, then you're not truly independent.

Orphaned as an infant , raised by maternal grandmother. Long story short, I had no other family left besides my brother and he was a kid like me ( 16 at the time). We'd bounce around, stay together for a while but eventually split apart as well. That was a tough time.

Pretty sure it's illegal for a 14 year old to live on their own. Gotta be at least 16, I would think.

Yeah

I didn't go into college right out of HS..I did electrical work and eventually went to Alaska for a month and a half and made really good money. Managed to save up a lot and that's how I'm currently paying for tuition

what did you live off of though? inheritance? government assistance? I don't doubt you were on your own that young, you've mentioned it before, but I doubt you were self sufficient at that age. you couldn't even work

Nobody arrested me. Sometimes I'd live with people, sometimes I'd just be homeless.

Might not have been the case when he was that age.
