What issues and what year(s)? I have a 2020 Tacoma with 65k miles on it and have done only regular maintenance. Still using my original brakes and tires. I had to replace the battery recently.

How shitty are trucks now that failures are high enough to document within 3 years?
I kinda have to grin at this because anything as complex as vehicles are going to have a statistical PP100 (problems per 100 cars) in the first six months of ownership. For example, a 125 PP100 would be VERY highly ranked, probably #1 pretty much every year. There are quite a few manufacturers that as a whole are over 200 PP100 in initial quality metrics.

I have a 2015 Tundra.
I have had an F-100, S-10, F-150, F-250 and the Tundra. It is by far the best engineered of all. Love it.

I had a 2020 Tundra. It was overrated junk.

GM transmission will detonate prematurely
The eight-speeds will, yes, undoubtedly. That is why GM was hit with a class action in federal district court in Michigan related to its 8L45E and 8L90 eight-speed automatic transmissions that were used in the following vehicles: 2015-2019 Cadillac Escalade/Cadillac Escalade ESV; 2016-2019 Cadillac ATS; 2016-2019 Cadillac ATS-V; 2016-2019 Cadillac CTS; 2016-2019 Cadillac CTS-V; 2016-2019 Cadillac CT6; 2015-2019 Chevrolet Silverado; 2017-2019 Chevrolet Colorado; 2015-2019 Chevrolet Corvette; 2016-2019 Chevrolet Camaro; 2017-2019 GMC Canyon; 2015-2019 GMC Sierra; 2015-2019 GMC Yukon/Yukon XL.
TLDR: GM was sued in federal court because of the eight-speed transmissions used in just about every vehicle from 2015-2019.
FWIW: My old man has a 2019 Silverado with the eight-speed. It’s still under warranty and was just at the dealership for a week—all seems peachy keen according to him. The current 10-speeds are just fine, speaking from experience.

I had a Tundra. All maintenance done by dealership.
A/C broke.
Four batteries died.
Not Toyota issue but problem with one of the stock tires that had to be replaced.
Infotainment system was complete crap and had to be redone.
Started to have "creaking" from the chassis when I traded it in.
Center console fell apart and had to be replaced.
All those issues at 12.5 mpg and 30,000 miles when I had enough.
It never left me stranded though. So I suppose it was "reliable".

My Toyota before that was bulletproof though.
I've had 3 Tacomas, 2 Tundras, and a Land Cruiser. My current Tundra has 213K on it and still feels like a new truck.

Yet every time there’s a truck thread on here or the Outdoor Board, someone is complaining about their Chevy or GMC burning a quart of oil every other week or their 8 speed transmission going out at 30,000 miles.
I’ve got a 2014 F-150 3.5 Ecoboost with 109k miles and have never had an engine or drivetrain problem. Knock on wood. Just a couple of batteries and a few small inexpensive relays and a wiper lever.

We quit buying the GMs at work because of reliability. We have the 2nd biggest fleet in North America
BTW, what were the major problems y’all were having? Transmissions?

The Hemi V8 has turned into a good engine. The issues they have are widely known and fairly easy to fix.

I believe he’s referring to the infamous “Hemi tick” which I think is lifter failure.
And yes, it’s long since been resolved but if you want to by hyper cautious, don’t frequently let it idle for long periods of time.
I loved both vehicles I had with the 5.7/6.4 - the problem is that everything else on them was a huge piece of shite.

One class action, try three. The 8 speed, 6 speed, and AFM on the motor. I have only owned GM trucks, never again.

Just buy you the SLT, Denali, LTZ, or High Country next go around with the standard 10-speed, baw.
Never had a problem with the AFM on my 2010 Silverado, fortunately.
