This cannot stand fellas. I just can't believe this!

quote:

"It just pushed so many buttons for me, and with each sentence it managed to get worse!" Polvino told Today. "My shock and dismay quickly turned to outrage. I mean, what decade are we in, anyway? In this day and age, we're going to tell kids that mothers working outside the home makes their children and families unhappy? That fathers don't normally do things like cook and wash the dishes?"

This is a news story.

Did they get the third graders to write a story and have the second graders fill in the blanks or something?

It's a story where a kid misses her parent. How traumatizing.

It is pretty fricked up to put an agenda like that in a homework assignment. Kind of agree with the outraged mom.

Actually I didn't share a link at all, purposefully.

But also, thank you for the compliment. I enjoy being called a genius.

She's got a point. The man making breakfast in this day and age?! Bitch needs to find the kitchen and stay there.

I kind of took it as the author is anti mom working but maybe I'm overthinking it.

I'm sure you're being sarcastic but that's the line of thinking that she's outraged over. The sad thing is that there are plenty of men out there that really do think this way.

I read the assignment, i'm not outraged. I'm not even perturbed. But I get it at least why it would bother her.

I don't think it's pro or anti moms working. I think it's simply saying that some moms work, and some kids deal with it. It's neutral, and if some kid reads it whose mom doesn't work then he just discovered that other families work different than his, that's good.

Fun fact, Dr Seuss wrote The Cat in the Hat because he felt like latchkey kids were under represented in kids lit and they might feel shitty about it.

Well if Lisa were black she wouldn't have a father there, so there's the silver lining.

And he asked Lisa to wash the dishes. That was not too good, either.

Lisa's father is cheating on her mother

To be fair I'd be a little peeved too. I'm sure some parents are self conscious about the sacrifices they make relationship wise to put food on the table, it's not the school's job to potentially plant that observation in their kids' heads.
