You act like you are talking to a pro gun crowd but your argument would be better served to anti gun people. Pro gun would be for anyone to own, anti gun would be against anyone with any mental disorder allowed to own.
You are right, but that’s the risk in the current situation. You either risk those with a potential mental disorder owning a gun or you risk taking away their rights to protect themselves.

I don’t think we should prevent people like yourself with anxiety/depression from owning a weapon. It’s wrong, and I agree with your points. I can see the obvious concern, however, given that statistics clearly show guns are more likely to be used to commit suicide than to defend oneself. Having been to some dark places myself, and given the lethality of that option (more commonly chosen by men because it gets the job done), I understand the concerns.

People in general aren't very smart. They hear this is a good idea and jump on it without any critical thought. It's a horrible idea and will lead to rampant abuse.
There is no fundamental right more basic than the right to defend yourself. I believe you, myself and every felon released for doing their time should be able to carry.

After what he did, it had to be assumed anyone he was about to come in contact with was in serious danger of getting shot.
