I was against it the first time around.
She was there for the 2nd and 3rd. Didn't mind it.

Not weird, IMO. Her mom is a nurse, so whatever, didn't bother me at all.

Gotcha. Our BCBS coverage is pretty good, so I'm sure we'll be fine.

That couple Grand is still peanuts compared to what they bill the insurance company. fricking inflated healthcare costs.

I just remembered insurance did NOT cover the epidural. That was more than the hospital bill. I think 600 or so.
So about a grand all said and done
Cheap as hell compared to the years thats follow

Mine was there, and I was glad she was. I actually didn't realize this was controversial until I saw this thread

Ha true. He said his brother had a bill of almost $10k when it was all said and done. I told him I'd say keep the kid.

I've done a pretty fair number of deliveries myself, I've got a fairly large family as well. The mother of the mother is almost always present in either case. In my family, it typically stops there. Father's mother stays outside but is usually there at time of delivery, assuming travel isn't an issue. Otherwise, they're there within a few days.
In the families I've delivered, there can be upwards of 10 people in the room. But in almost every case, mother's mother was there. I do find this weird. Especially the number of people taking pictures from the foot of the bed (especially since it's explicitly prohibited) and trying to video the delivery. When anyone other than the mother's female family is present, I find it unusual from what I'm accustomed to (I understand close sister, mother in law though I wouldn't want it myself), but one thing I've learned from medicine is that there is an entirely different world of people that live in a way I've never considered possible, and that's normal for them.

How do the new moms feel about basically their entire immediate family seeing her poop?
Posted on 2/26/18 at 9:56 am to LNCHBOX
My wife did not poop during the delivery! (Just 14 times over the 10 hours prior)

Just curious, but why?

I don't think my mil is a bitch (most of the time) but my wife and I decided it was a moment we wanted to share together and alone, sans the 5 nurses and doctor.

Nope. Nope nope nope.

Without question IMO. The doctor and nurses need to be there.

And to be fair, we had 1 labor nurse for the majority of labor/pushing. The others and the doctor came in the room 5 min before the baby came.

She just wants someone there who's gone through it before. Not too weird.
As long as she wasn't there when you put the baby in there. That would be crossing the line...

Fair enough. Like I said, I didn't know this was a controversial thing until I saw this thread. It did not affect my personal experience.
