re: Mother-in-law in delivery room

Just pointing out that any father who tries to force the issue will lose when it comes to the day of delivery.
If the woman insists on having her mother present, her mother will be there (assuming there are no major complications and they restrict who is in the delivery room)

No one has said differently.

I have no idea if it is weird or not, but I truly hope that you like your MIL because this tells me your MIL will have a lot of power in your life.

This is where it's important to determine if the woman's desire to have her mom there is being fueled by the MIL. My MIL was constantly trying to weasel her way in to the room, even the day of.
If it's truly important to the mom to be, that carries much more weight than if she just has a mom that is trying to insert herself in there.

When it came time for my wife to start pushing, mine tried to stay right outside the door

If I put my mind to it, I can't lose. I may get divorced over it. I may myself get kicked out of the hospital. I might get arrested. But damn it, if I really wanted to force the issue, I'm not going to lose! I just didn't care enough the day of. Much better things to look forward to even if I wasn't a fan (my MIL is a piece of work that's really never been there for my wife before, so why start now). Now if she would have tried to hold that baby first......

This is the first moments you get to spend with your child. Do you really want to share it with your MIL? You need to tell your wife you don't her in there.

I didn't mind if mine was in there (reinforcements), but my wife didn't want her in there. 12 hours of labor with a natural birth was hell on me, can only imagine what it was like for her.

I didn't let anyone, including my MIL, see my wife for a good hour after the delivery because my wife was so out of it.
That didn't make the MIL very happy

We did the same. My wife did t hours of skin to skin with the baby before we let anyone back to see him.
Luckily, the waiting room door was locked for the delivery rooms. I'm pretty sure my mil was trying to go all here's Johnny on that door.

Why does blue cross care who is in the room?

I would if I had any, my wife's mom is pretty good looking for 60.

Your insurance pays the full cost of child birth?

Our first kid we had dozens of family all waiting. Within minutes they were all coming in to see the baby.
frick that.
Second kid, it was just the three of us for about 2 hours. Then my mil brought our son to meet his sister (mil stsyed in waiting area). About an hour later family came.
So much better.
This is about you, your spouce, and your kid (s).
The rest can deal with it.

It paid most of it. I think we paid a few hundred total.

I know some friends of ours had to pay a couple grand out of pocket. They also had to be in the NICU for a couple days though for some breathing issues.

No way in hell I would of wanted my mother in law in there, but times change and it’s a pretty recent thing that dads have been in there.
I liked it being just me and the wife, we let the grandparents all in at the same time. They didn’t stay long because my wife was in labor for a long time and had issues, so I kicked them all out pretty quick to let my wife get some sleep. I took care of our baby most of the first day and really enjoyed it.
