I use a safety razor, which I started using based on suggestions from the board. For 100 razors it cost $18.00 which is probably the best deal I have found when it comes to the amount spending on razors.

The key is drying off the blades after use. They last much longer

You shaved off that glorious facial hair?

Gillette Fusion here. Shave once a week, use a trimmer to shorten the longer hair on Sunday before using the razor. The razor heads last at least 3 months each. $40 for an 8-pack would last two years.

For those using safety razors, how long does it take you to shave?

I don't always keep facial hair, but I did do a complete shave the last time I shaved, which was two days ago.

Baw. Why have you not started using a safety razor yet? It is sublime. Here, let me help:

A blade lasts about a week. Here's 2 years worth of shaves for $30. You're welcome.

Why are most razor blades so damn expensive?

Don't know where you are getting that from. I get a pack of 100 Persona DE blades for around $10. At one blade a week, that's almost two years worth. Kind of a deal, actually.

Not if you want your face.

I like Feathers, OK, but I find the Astra Super Platinum work better for me, and believe it-or-not, Wilkinson Swords.

I want to try Kai Blades.

Where can you find good handles?

Check out West Coast Shaving.

They sell all of the popular brands up to the high end stuff. From brushes, to lather bowls, blades handles, whatever.

If you want to start with good stuff on the sheap, check out their "Build Your Own Sets". Everything you need at a discount price.

Don't be afraid of their "in-house" brand handles. Those are quality steel nice handles.

I have been using the same Atra II handle for 30 years. Buy the drugstore brand blade replacements for about $10 for 20 blades. Get about 2 weeks out of each blade.

Get a safety razor. and buy a box of DE blades. Or grab a used safety razor at antique store or ebay etc for very cheap. Sterilize it with alcohol, give it a polish and it will outlive you.

Also, get some shaving soap. The cost of a puck of shaving soap versus cans of shaving cream is huge. It's made for proper razors, shaves better and is better for the skin.

Lastly, a good shaving brush is necessary and expensive, but also will last for decades. Try to hit up your spouse/relative etc to get you one for xmas.
