They're soft in the head, so yeah, it has an influence on the very weak minded in society, those who are the most violent and emulate whatever they see portrayed as cool in entertainment they are immersed in, namely the music. That infects their communities and begins to be seen as the mark of the alpha males in those communities, and what you need to be like if you're going to be seen as a real man In that community.
is this attitude influenced by pop culture, or is the pop culture influenced by this attitude?

That's a really good question. I'd say there's also another factor at play and that's the fact of how little importance that attitude places on education or anything cultural outside of base rudimentary cave man instincts. That keeps them fixated in this position without a hope of ever truly breaking free from that culture of violence I'd say.

There's another thing at play here resulting from a lack of focus on education and books. When you don't have the ability to use language efficiently to discuss things, frustration sets in, and then the only thing left to resolve things is fights and altercations and that builds more resentment and more violence. Additionally, if the people with this attitude were more focused on reading and bettering themselves, they would be less likely to want to participate in some of their crazy nonsense in the first place. They would be finding ways to better their condition instead.

I can think of many homogenous countries in Eastern Europe, Asia, and the Middle East that are complete shite holes.
Just because it is a country full of brown people doesn't mean they are the same type of brown people.
1) The borders of most countries have changed throughout history
2) Many countries are now ruled by a people that were once from another land.
3) While our country is more diverse than others, much of our lack of a peaceful perception likely has more to do with foreign policy.

Phew. Glad the US isn't #162. Where's the Bahamas?

looks like it pays to live in a homogenous society.

I do have to question though how the hell Japan qualifies for that list, since they have perhaps the most violent history of any civilized nation in the past 100 years.
They've been quite peaceful the past 70 years.

Bottom line is the only common trait amongst all these countries is homogeneous demographics.
Everything else is just an excuse to try and disprove this fact. Quit grasping for straws. Yes there are homogeneous countries that are not in the top 10, but not one of the top 10 isn't homogeneous.

That's cause big poppa laid down the law on those motherfrickers.
If modern day Japan is the direct result of August/September 1945 then.....

There's potential that Japan will go to war against China over the Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands. And I'd hardly consider Switzerland, Belgium, and Canada to be homogeneous countries. There are two official languages in Canada, three in Belgium, and four in Switzerland. The reason Switzerland avoids invasion during wars is that it is extremely mountainous and is not really geographically valuable.

Why does the US rank so low?

quote:I'm pretty sure most people in this thread are defining "homogeneous" as well educated and white. Which of course if you look at the top ten is more than likely a factor in determining what is and what isn't "peaceful". However, as some have pointed out, just being homogeneous doesn't get you in the top 10. Govt seems to have something to do with it also.
And I'd hardly consider Switzerland, Belgium, and Canada to be homogeneous countries.
Just to get my Murica shite out of the way, all these peaceful countries wouldn't be so damn peaceful if it weren't for some less than peaceful countries saving their asses ( or stomping their asses) in WW2.

US is fine. Most places in the US are safe and residents have a relatively high quality of life. The US is full of great places to live surrounding pockets of shittiness. Unfortunately the shitty parts seem to get most of the press.
