1) Laziness
2) inflation, less money to put towards extracurriculars
3) advances in technology

I weigh 214 at 6’1.5” and am 70. Granted dropping 10 pounds knocks some off of my waist, however, my ideal weight would be 160-174 which makes me rail thin after dropping about 40 pounds.
I was 160 at 17 yrs old and was considered pretty skinny by peers. Oh well.

It’s expensive. Walmart and even Target lack quality produce and meats

You are correct about food quality being the problem but wrong about availability and prices. We have changed our way of eating as well and have only seen a small increase since it balances out. We spend more on quality but don't buy all the crap, it evens out overall. Quality food also increases satiety so no constant snacking.

You can get grass fed grass finished beef at Walmart for $5.83 per lb. Beef That's as healthy as you can get. If you carefully pick your produce they have fine options as well. Problem is no one bothers. They are hooked on the low quality crap.

To fix it will take fixing decades of poor nutrition "science" and policy.

Get rid of crap seed oils.
Stop the war on healthy natural fats.
Stop the overprocessing of all of the grain based foods.
Stop added sugar and HFCS in damn near everything.
Review the GRAS and "natural flavors" that are practically unregulated and in everything.

None of this will happen because there is too much money involved. Corn and HFCS are just like ethanol and are untouchable because of the Iowa primary. shite food is easy to produce in huge amounts with better margins than healthy food.

Big Pharma likes it because they can get you hooked on lifetime subscriptions of highly profitable drugs.

So as long as Big Pharma and Big Ag own our politicians and fund the vast majority of nutrition studies there will be no change. And no matter what anyone thinks the vast majority can't outrun a bad diet. It will eventually catch up with them.

People overthink losing weight. In April 2021 I was 284lbs and my doctor was concerned about my blood work. I went on low carb/keto diet. This morning I'm 219lbs and got my blood work results back a few weeks ago and everything good.

If you have discipline and a desire to get healthier you will.

Exercise can be free.

Some people need routines and systems, but none are necessary.

bullshite. I kicked it's arse.

I went from the emergency room and an A1c of 10.4 to an A1C of 4.9 all without medications and have gotten healthier and lost weight along the way.

All because of diet change like in my post above. Very little exercise was needed, mainly walking a little every day. I do exercise/work out more now since I just plain feel better and have more energy but it was not the cause of the massive change.

Before someone goes crazy, I realize I was Type 2 and Type 1s are in a different category but the vast majority of diabetics are Type 2 and they can change their life if they wanted.

And yes I can now eat damn near anything I want and have a normal blood sugar response but why would I go back and eventually end up back in the same situation? I eat a better more enjoyable diet now and I'm not looking back.

Is this based on a simple BMI calculation? By that calculation, Bryce Young is overweight based on his combine measurements and most world class athletes in power sports would be as well.

There is an obesity problem, but BMI is not a good metric.
