I’m impressed that Ruston High School has four.

Don’t feel bad. I was in McGannon’s program and was not a National Merit Semifinalist. I was math heavy but the verbal parts always got me.

No they don’t. A kid playing rugbyi n Louisiana, is like any kid wrestling here. Our state champions would get there arse beat by the 4th stringer in big wrestling states..

And my nephew who played rugby at Rummel and later at LSU would tell you..

Jesuit Rugby has won three state titles in a row and they send kids to universities all over the world to play. They also think football players are soft.

I always found Jesuit grads to be a little soft compared to Brother Martin or Shaw rugby players.

Unfortunately CHS hasn't had a team in years and even then we had to play as the Baton Rouge U19 club because Weiner was adamantly against any sport that would take away from his 100 player football team.

Don’t forget wrestling the last 2 years as well.
Someone said this in another thread but it really is true. Academically, Catholic is more in line with Brother Martin than it is with Jesuit.

The gap isn't as big as you'd expect. The Louisiana Renegade select squad used to win outright or finish towards the top at the national tournaments.

Many go to LSU to continue playing. One recent alum is now playing in Wales, a senior this year is going to New Zealand, and one of the juniors is already lined up to play at a school in France.

Not really even close. This is a down year for national merits at Catholic. They had 10. Last year Catholic had 17 and brother Martin had 2. They are usually around 5.

At the top end Catholic and Jesuit are close. Jesuit definitely pulls the top students from a larger population compared to Catholic. If you’re an upper tier Catholic grade school student in New Orleans you’re going to Jesuit

As for comparing the Louisiana national merits to other states it’s easy to do by looking at the index cutoff by state. Louisiana upper tier students are fine. It’s the lower tier kids that kill the system.

This is BS. In New Orleans, if you're a Catholic grade school student, smart or not, you're going wherever your parents went to school. The high schools down here are like cults.

We definitely had the best confederate flag covered campus, although I'm not an alum. I still find it odd how much grown adults care about where they went to high school though.

Jesuit has build a program around obtaining NMS status for its students 10 to 15 years ago. It is a system. CHS is playing catch up.

True...but CHS had 17 last year, going down to 10 is not a good indication they are moving in a positive direction

This is the queerest pillow fight in history, two of the largest factories producing the softest mother sperry frickers in Louisiana.
