I shudder at what white people have done to first names in the last 25 years. It is emblematic of pervasive (and growing) ignorance of history, literature, linguistics, and the Judeo-Christian foundations of our society. As institutions crumble all around us, so do the established traditions of naming children that have survived for hundreds of years.

You named your kid Ronan Artillery.
That’s the name of a kid that will conquer the weak.

Sounds like a movie character. Parents are either clueless or have a great sense of humor.

I don't think history or literature have anything to do with it. I think the lower or barely middle class families with soccer moms want to believe their child is special and unique, which they clearly know themselves to not be, and want to name them something unique to not be lumped in with all the Ashleys and Jessicas that they went to school with.
The problems are 2 fold. For one the new names they come up with are dumb as frick. Secondly, now it's caught on so now naming their kid Brayden or Jaxon or whatever isn't even unique anymore!
I agree it's hard to beat a strong, classic, biblical name. That's definitley the route I'd take but my wife isn't on board unfortuantely.

For your average white family, is cannon a bad name?
I really, really disliked it at first, but it’s honestly starting to grow on me, but I’m retarded, sooo........

Braxton was the first name of GEN Bragg...so, it's not new.
Kind of funny, considering most people that I have known with that name were black.

While not spelled awkwardly I did go to high school with one Sunny and Wendy Day.

More like ‘I have a cannon attached to my right shoulder so I’m gonna dominate travel ball then get that D1 scholly while smashing everyone’s GF and mother’.
That type of Cannon

I have friends with kids' names like Cannon and Canyon. This started in late 90s. Connor was a popular name then as well.
I met a girl last year with a Tade. Never heard it. Completely made up to be different.
You have 2 crowds...
One tries TOO hard to be traditional and combines names of olde (Jack Henry; John Bailey; Robert Hayes; Dylan Reese)
The other...
Bentley; paisleigh; Taylynn; Finn; Brinley
