Found this video that shows how the WSPS system is supposed to work for anyone curious.

Had wires been invented when this video was made? This is older than Betty White and Doritos.

Holy shite. I think you’re right. Seconds 3 - 4 in that linked video you can see him at the very top of the frame in the air. Looks like he hit the road from over 100 feet up and then I’m sure got hit by traffic after that.

Absolutely horrible.

How do you eject from chopper? Thru the main rotors?

LINK

THe Russians have ejection seats in one of their military choppers. The first thing that happens in the ejection sequence is a explosive charge removes the main rotor blades.

Assuming this guy knows the area well he was flying right? Would he not have known there was wires there? Is that why some think he may have had an issue prior to hitting them?

That's my thought. He knew the area very well.

Here's a simulator recreation of the crash. Doesn't appear he was flying too low. Something happened to cause the rapid descent then clipped the power lines on the way down.

That looks like some booty at home flight sim amateur trying to play spillway crash.

The tail number N150AS is registered under a private owner and therefor flight paths for this aircraft arent publicly available.

Sure it is, if you know where to look.

ADS-B Exchange

Select path speed 1x, 5x then click on aircraft. speed is in kts, alt in baro.

Ok that makes a lot more sense. That sim video made no sense at all to me. Thought he was headed to Lakefront from Gonzales.

Video shows him ejected and falling with helecopter, right? Looks like he was tethered to the aircraft in some way.

Also, the helicopter slid further east than he did, but both were on pavement at rest

Airframe is aluminum and carbon fiber and some steels. Engine gearbox, freewheeling unit and both main and tail rotor gearboxes have magnesium bodies but it's a small amount in the total composition of aircraft. That's a fuel fire.
