I just don't have that sick need in me. Call me weird.

I could spend hours watching beheadings by cartel and terrorists.

Yea , This sounds most probable.

Found this video that shows how the WSPS system is supposed to work for anyone curious.

Me either but I think civilian helos are generally very thin and light and hence vulnerable.

The result would have been the same with a Blackhawk or Chinook, just more spectacular.

Careful, you'll be ridiculed for stating your credentials...lol. Good post though.

We all have a death sentence. It’s just a matter of when and how. At the end of the day, just just consider that it’s better him than you.

That is so bad arse. Engineers are amazing. I had no idea helicopters had such equipment.

I’ve never flown in one but it’s on my bucket list to do. I’ll check it off before then end of 2022.

ETA: I just watched that suggested video. That’s cool as hell and I never even thought of something like that. Thanks TD!

Was told that per investigators at the site the pilot was ejected and then immediately run over by an 18 wheeler. That’s why his body is mangled if you see the video. He’s missing his legs. It’s circulating and very sad indeed. Just hope he died from the wreck and not the 18 wheeler hitting him.

The driver of the other truck had a better reaction time. Looked like he got stopped before driving through the wreckage.

No the pic after the accident showed the truck stopped 30 ft after the crash zone.

for his sake, I hope the same, I had a friend die from a high G accident that, if you looked at the scene you would think there's no way he could be alive but when the rescuers got to him he was still alive, and suffering greatly, docs say that the natural pain killers kick in and try to comfort the body but he was in great pain until the last moment

How do you eject from chopper? Thru the main rotors? Brother was helicopter pilots in marines, only way to save aircraft was reverse draft before impact. Neighbor is cleaning up site and storing what’s left. He said it’s ugly

Something to consider when talking about Reaction time is the loads these rigs were carrying .

I’d like to think or hope that the impact at the transmission line at 100+ Mph at least knocked him out as to not experience all the carnage consciously on the ground.

That things falling straight down as if it came to a sudden stop with no slope.

We had a transmission failure (some cheap bolt break) on an apache here in League City a few years. Pilots were dead before they hit the water...all that power and components sheared off and caused instant death (head trauma)

Here's a simulator recreation of the crash. Doesn't appear he was flying too low. Something happened to cause the rapid descent then clipped the power lines on the way down.
