We could be back on the moon tomorrow. Current projects are meant to make it safer and cheaper.

Were scientists 60 years ago so much more brilliant than scientists today that they were able to send a man to the moon in a toaster with some Radio Shack technology but todays scientists can't get it done with todays computing power?
Contrary to what Hollywood would have you think, one certain demographic did 99.9999% of the technical heavy lifting back then.

I call BS on this. NASA recently sent Orion 1 to the moon, it flew past the moon then circled the mon for between 8-10 days. It returned back to earth safely. While there Orion 1 transmitted hundreds of pics from the mon. Upon re entry of the earth's atmosphere they videoed from inside a window the entire reentry including the chutes coming out and splashdown. It was recorded on board since there is a loss of signal as plasma build up coming through the atmosphere at that speed. So.... NO they haven't forgotten how.

Can't wait for Elon to land starship on the moon and show pictures of existing landing sites. The tards will melt.

We ended up spending about $20B to get there, and it was an expensive PR stunt, and after we pulled it off, the public didn't care anymore.
It's debatable that they would've cared at all had JFK not gotten shot and that we were going against the Russians.

Back then, NASA wouldn't have hired many minorities, regardless of merit. Otherwise, I agree that the best person for the job should always be hired.
And it's not like NASA's push for more women and minorities is relatively new, the 1978 TFNG class had them and NASA hyped the first American woman and black astronauts (Sally Ride and Guy Bluford who were definitely very qualified) that made it to orbit. If anything, had Robert Lawrence not tragically gotten killed in an F-104 crash in the 60s, he would've beaten them to space years earlier as part of the Manned Orbiting Laboratory program (if it didn't get canceled or if he was part of the MOL group that got moved to NASA).

People these days don't put the cost into proper context. The amount we spent to get to the moon. The amount of money we spent then could build the USS Gerald Ford today and have a pile left over.
It's a staggering amount of money. We could have a crew of 10 on the way to Mars in a year if we wanted to bad enough. Nobody sees any value in that when robots can go in our stead and do a better job of what needs doing while there.
We're at an awkward spot technology wise when it comes to manned space flight. I dont think we see it proliferate again until we have robots actively constructing stuff on the moon.

And keep in mind that the $20ish billion was in 1960s dollars. Today that would be closer to $300 billion.

There are approximately 9,000 satellites in space that orbit the Earth.
There is a space station that has been manned since 2000 traveling at five miles a second and can orbit the Earth in 90 minutes.
NASA could put an end to all the space, moon, and flat Earth conspiracies for the price of one GoPro. Strap one to the side of the ISS or one of the 9,000 satellites and live stream one full orbit all the way around.
Or they could strap a GoPro to an unmanned rocket and land it on the moon. Live stream it from launch to landing.

I'm talking about seeing the ball. Back it up so we can see a round planet.
Thanks though.

Yea, that's what I was trying to get at. Even if you dont account for inflation its almost enough to build 2 Ford class carriers. Todays money, 300B could build 24 Ford class carriers.

How far out do you think the ISS orbits? You morons will just come up with some other bs for why new evidence isn't good enough.
I don't know how far it is. But if they can put people on the moon in the sixties with video, they can surely get live video of a round planet.
Keep sucking the Government teats.

What was lost? We still have the actual craft themselves, and a few who flew in them.
Probably need to check the batteries in your hearing aid.

Bull frickin shite. We might have lost the men who had the brains to sort it out, but it's not like it was some kind of magic tech involved. It was lots of money, lots of testosterone, lots of cigarettes, and lots of patriotism that got us there.
