Take the shoreline or 17 mile drive, stop at pebble beach just to visit - if you have $$$$ play a round of golf

Go to the aquarium, tour Carmel (stop at the Hog's Breath), drive 17 Mile Drive, see Point Lobos, play Pebble Beach if you golf, drive south on Hwy. 1 and see Big Sur, catch a race at Laguna Seca (if you like cars).

Early morning drive South on the PCH (to or towards Big Sur).

Carmel and Monterey are beautiful, if I were wealthy I'd have a house somewhere around there.

17 mile drive is beautiful.
Pebble Beach.
They have a beautiful aquarium in Monterey.
Wine tasting at a local vineyard.

Carmel California is much nicer and is only 10 miles away. Doris Day and Clint Eastwood have restaurants in Carmel. Both are very nice. Pacifics Edge restaurant in Carmel is great.

BIG Sir is an hour drive south. Drive some of the Pacific Coast Highway. It is lovely.

Hot apple cider on the veranda at the rocky point restaurant off the PCH, in route to Big Sur. If you are on the Bixby Bridge, you went too far.

The aquarium is great, the whaling station for dinner, the mucky duck for drinks, the tickle pink hotel in Carmel is a great little secret and a damn fine hotel.

The brass anchor is a decent meal with cool ambiance. Damn I miss Monterey...

Drive PCH from Monterrey towards Santa Barbara.

See Hearst Castle, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara.

Agreed. The PCH to SF is not nearly as nice as heading south.

I'm hoping to go out there for a week or two. Should I try and see some giant redwoods and make a trip to Yosemite while I'm out there?

Mystery spot in Santa Cruz. You can find redwoods there.

The boardwalk in Santa Cruz is cool enough, but Santa Cruz can be a little sketchy as well.

This was back in 2001 or so, but there was a bit of bleed over from the Salinas gang crowd at times.

Absolutely go to Yosemite.
Just note, there are giant sequoias in Yosemite, not redwoods. There is a difference. Still both are big arse trees.
But Yosemite has so much more to offer than just sequoias.
For Monterey, I also suggest Point Lobos.

Pretty much the most beautiful part of the entire country. Just drive away and enjoy being there for however long you are.
