Monroe has some really nice areas. If you ever have a chance to take a boat ride along bayou desiard do it.

You literally have no idea what you're talking about. You were just some dork in grad school who nobody paid any attention to and were unable to make friends. You chose to be miserable and that's on you. Monroe sucks, and a lot of the city is a shithole. But it has always punched above its weight with restaurants and bars. Certainly way better than Ruston. And it has lot to offer if you like water and outdoors. Your shitty experience is a reflection of you, not Monroe. And don't you live in Shreveport? Lmao

Again....I dont... I just know far more people that enjoyed their college experience in Ruston than did in Monroe

Ruston definitely was way more fun. Not that there was more to do, especially 20 years ago, but it was just a better college in general and Ruston is just a really nice town. But we'd still head to Monroe to do stuff

Wait . . . what?

Ruston was "more fun" that Monroe but you had to go to Monroe to do stuff?

Holy shite man...didn't mean to trigger you so bad. Again...I have no personal opinion on Ruston, but Monroe was a hard place to have fun in in my opinion. We had a great grad school cohort and we made it fun as we could...but that's generally the comment I hear from people who went to ULM.... well..town sucks but we made it fun. Anecdotally that's the same thing my wife will say about Pineville (LC undergrad).

Except for the Rabs years Ruston never had shite to do at night.

I grew up in Pineville. Edge of town, rode motorcycles, hunted, fished, only got shot with a BB gun. Went parking at the end of gravel roads, went to public school, and eventually moved to BR.

Was a great place to grow up.

Probably would’ve done the same on outskirts of Monroe.

Life is what you make of it.

If you have kids, either could be great, and arguably better than any larger city.

We didn't "have to go", we just did periodically. And yeah I had more fun in Ruston not because there is just ample stuff happening to keep me entertained, we just were creative college kids that created our own. And it was a great town to do that in.

Personally I don't understand how people can't enjoy themselves without there being shite prepared for them to constantly do. I think Rustons small town feel made for a better college experience

Having grown up in Monroe/West Monroe/Calhoun, Ruston is the fricking Gold standard of LA...When i was still in school, you went to Rabbs or the Q, now its better than anything in South La and anyone that tells you otherwise, has never been

but people who I know went to tech loved Ruston and called it a classic college town. Monroe has too much crushing Baptist influence to ever feel like a college town imo....maybe in reality it's not much different....but I know enjoying even grad school there was difficult.

Interesting take…the Tech students had to drive to Monroe to drink/party. Have you seen all the baptist churches in Ruston?
