They didn't. They gave the kid an award for being funny, and the mom is crying.
You'll never get treated "normally" if you continually pretend blackness is some pass to stay constantly pissed.
Irrational people get discriminated against, then wonder why. There's an easy fix, stop being irrational.

This is pretty obvious. I also don’t buy that the teacher didn’t understand the implications. “Monkey” is a term of derision that I’ve heard used against black people since I was a kid. This teacher, and school, if they knew about the award beforehand, have just created an unnecessary situation that they set themselves up for. That being said, it’s hard to imply intent if this award has ever been given to a white kid.
