I used to pretend I was a different animal everyday when I was a kid.

He actually can and does however he cannot refer to any third party as his son. He has to refer to his child as the child went to school (which because of the mom is always as a girl) to others.
At home with the father he dresses in boy clothing (because according to his father that is what he wants).
And they can bring in a court appointed psychiatrist and they probably will. However the reason why the father is bringing up this issue is because he is bankrupt from the proceedings and if he doesn't respond legally he could lose custody from just lack of not showing up and responding to her original petition. Therefore, no money, no court date, no court appointed psychiatrist, mom wins and gets to do whatever she wants. End story.

Also the normal kids probably give them shite, which I'm sure doesn't help, but plenty of kids get bullied in highschool and don't off themselves.
