I considered buying a Probe once, but it's too small for a six-footer.

I had forgotten there was ever a car brand called Eagle. Why did it ever even exist? Was there anyone on earth who was a devoted Eagle enthusiast?

Leftover brand from Chrysler’s purchase of AMC.

I absolutely loved their styling but they had the stigma of being an absolute turd although the KLZE was an attractive swap for those cars.

The Eagle Talon Tsi AWD was a bad motherfricker, I miss that car more than any other vehicle I have owned. That 4g63 could make some serious power but the transmissions blew unless you got a shepherd racing transmission.

I was wondering where they all went... I know of only a single, lonely smart car in my area. Seemed like they disappeared overnight!

Yeah me and my buddies all have them. I know of at least 50. They only see public roads for beer runs at TX2K.

I think Ford rebadged it as the Mercury Cougar for a few years with a new body style

It became the Escort zx2, which was originally going to be the new Probe redesign for 1997.

At the time Ford was in a partnership.with Mazda and the Probe was identical mechanically to the MX-6, just different bodies and interiors.

The Probe originally started out as a redesign for the Mustang, but Ford got so much blowback from Mustang fans due to the smaller engine and front wheel drive, that they ditched those plans and rebadged it as the Probe.

97 Ford Escort zx2

My wife and I had a 94 Probe as our first car soon after we were married, just like this one:

Fun little vehicle to drive, but, kind of small and, eventually, after a few years the Ford "quality" started showing up and we got rid of it.

After putting on the mileage they seemed to have some problems with rough idling and frequent stalling, ours did, and I can't imagine too many are around anymore. I haven't seen one on years.

quote:How would that even be possible these days? For street use, there’s not a better driver car out there, and I’m including super cars. The thing drives like it’s on rails. 50/50 weight distribution, revs to 9k rpm, and you feel like you’re going faster than you really are so you won’t get into as much legal trouble. It’s hard to explain to someone that’s never driven one, let alone driven one to the limit on curvy roads. Hell, I just want a car with a 6-speed, I don't care how great an automatic transmission is for efficiency. Going to be tough to replace my Focus ST after my son takes it when he graduates.

But why settle for mediocrity? You’re just going to get older and that classic is not going to get any less expensive. Combined between the two, I’ve put about 150k miles on an s2000 in my younger days. This is coming from someone who could scrape by on a Porsche payment. The s2000 is a better and more capable street car than a 911 (without going to jail).

And yes my joints hurt. They have a very stiff chassis.

Well, I just disagree, and I like the S2000 a ton.

But I've driven a 911 cross-country twice, and was comfortable both times. I can't imagine doing that in a s2000. I think it would be similar to my 96 Corvette, in terms of ride and NVH.
