I don’t really care about tech. Stripped but reliable is what I’m aiming for. I’m know they don’t have a good reputation in the past, but for the price point, it’s hard to beat.

The Mitsubishi Outlander is essentially a disguised Nissan Rogue.
Nissan owns the majority share of Mitsubishi.

Imagine getting the rejected designs from Nissan....
Mitsubishi dealers must be furious.

Going on two years with one and MIL going on 5 years with hers. Zero problems what so ever so far. It does lack a little power but wife is fine with it. 35 mpg’s is something I’m definitely ok with.

Looks like something a honcho in the Yakuza gets picked up in to go to dinner.

35?! That’s more than advertised. Must be doing majority highway.

The Ceed is a popular car in Europe that looks really nice when you see it on the road. I was looking at this one recently.

Highlander costs 20K more than the Outlander, yet the Highlander averages close to 6K maintenance during first ten years of service, whereas the Outlander costs $7200.
Seems like the Outlander is a better buy if wanting a long time vehicle.

Not anymore. Not even close.

I rented one recently. Has a lot of Tech options, but I thought it was a gutless POS.
Poor ride quality with zero power.

Your logic is sound….but I am not sure if the Outlander is the same size as the Highlander.
I thought it was more like the Forester, CR-V, or Equinox…, which are a size smaller than the Highlander. With that in mind, the Outlander is priced appropriately - maybe a little too much considering the reduced resale value it would have relative to those competitors.

It’s a definitely smaller in third row leg room area, and about 5 less cubit feet cargo. The engine won’t have as much kick, but again, $20,000 less has to be taken into consideration. Am I wrong on this?
Eta, Resale is not a big deal for me if I plan to have for 10 years.

How far behind are they on producing the new GXs? I don't think I've actually seen one on the road.

I dont think the new Lexus GX will be anywhere as reliable as their old models. Too much tech and I the engine will be similar to the Tunda 3.5TT. Check the forums, the Tundra engine is getting replaced a ton.

I think Mitshubishi finally jumped Nissan in terms of Japanese brand/quality, but both are in the same tier.
They should be equal. They are built off the same platform and share an engine.

It's a Nissan Rogue, so whatever the reliability on that is.

I had a Mitsubishi suv 2001-2006
It was fine, but I also would never own another one.
Repeated issues with transmission, they replaced it once and then added a cooler when the issues persisted. The issue was I would be on an incline at a stop light and it wouldn’t move after driving for a few miles.
There was a faulty 4wd switch that would engage without my knowledge, which meant it gobbled up tires.
It went thru brakes like crazy, it was too heavy for the oem rotors.
But I don’t recall any engine issues. The leather was nice.

I wouldn't buy a Mitsubishi or Nissan personally. Get a Toyota or Honda man. I would rather buy a used older model pickup truck personally. You can actually repair them yourself.
