then in reality the end-user / consumer is indirectly paying the outrageous fees.

the shipping companies don't give a shite, they just raise their prices to reflect

I always thought it was wild there is a United States Supreme Court case literally allowing the nepotism in the river pilot community.
So how much nepotism you think there is in the pilot industry vs, say, the legal industry?

Maybe due to what’s coming in. A lot of tankers are diverting to Mobile and Houston because they say frick those fees. That’s a lot of money not going to the states coffers
You think Mobile and Houston pilot fees are less?
Or maybe Mobile and Houston are 6 mile ventures while heading to NOLA or BR are 10x's longer and way more distinctive routes?
I mean, I get it... shippers don't like the fees. Low IQ people don't like the pay. But tell me Tampa, Mobile, Houston, etc are better "diversion" points because of the pilot fees? Blame geography.

The average Houston Harbor pilot salary is 190k a year. It’s public unlike the pilot salaries in this state.

Are you a pilot or a retired pilot?
No one is suggesting they be "legislated out of a job".
Again, just use the same rules other states use
But it’s super soy to get pissy at someone who’s killing it because you can’t do it. Maybe not “you”, per se - but “you” being those people whining about it.
And the OP literally talked about pushing legislation. Sounds like the typical leftist approach - dump law and government onto a problem by the truckload.
It won’t actually fix anything, but let’s wreck it for the guy who’s doing better than me.

How the hell did you get

A handful of people are making way more than you. BFD. Get over it.

Wait until the diversity hires, you talk about going to be a cluster on that river

Still, no reason for folks to get all whiny because these guys are stacking paper.
Lots of things on this planet aren’t fair. This is one of them. People need to wipe the sand out of their pussies and worry about their own shite.

Mad because someone has it better than you? Better legislate them right out of a job!
It's the leftist's way.
Nepotism is the leftist way. The only people that make it up the party, are the well connected. A capitalist wouldn't think like you do.

I understand that’s anecdotal and a very small sample size, but these are the facts.
Now, perhaps they know someone who knows someone who knows someone. Guess where else that happens? In the private and public sector in this and every other country. Why aren’t you beating that drum?

You are making assumptions not in evidence.

Why do you think this is the only field where this happens?

Help me understand why a wink and a nod in this business is any different from any other business place.

I think nepotism is only part of what they are arguing is wrong with the pilots. The main issue is the governance by a board made up of the pilots with no outsiders.

Incestuous hiring practices are condoned.
