They didn’t say why she was there in his house. The obvious assumption is that it was a sexual relationship, or even a brainwashing/kidnapping type deal.
But without knowing more, maybe the teen was seeking refuge there from abusive parents of something. Probably not because if the teacher had pure motives, he would have alerted the police.

if the girl was being held there absent her free will, story would've said that.
If there was any sexual abuse, it would likely have said that too.
Yes it sounds creepy. However, there were opportunities to make this story more than it is.

She ran away from Huckleberry House which means he might have been doing the wrong thing for the right reason.

Almost sounds like you’re defending the dude. He should’ve at the very least called the cops 263 days ago saying he had her and that she is safe and go arrest the parents.

People have downvoted me for saying this in the past but I think, in the eyes of the students, teachers seem to be more equal to them than in the past. Teachers wear clothes that's similar to what the kids have to wear. It seems like when I was growing up teachers were more like authority figures and you would know if a teacher was doing something inappropriate. Maybe not, but I do know that relationship between a student and teacher was different than it is today. That's why I think teachers should go back to dressing more professional.
