I'm not saying that's bad news, but it isn't good news. Maximum range for a cell tower (GSM) is about 35 km - now, it could have been a relay signal, but I honestly can't tell you how the networks are down there.
You would hate to think that the storm got so bad he headed towards PR. Man- he would have been better off staying in St. Croix.
Like I said earlier, my gut is that they made it, but the longer it goes without contact, the less likely it is we get a happy ending.

Rich people don't read weather reports?
How long have people been talking about how massive the storm was. Mother nature's a bitch.
He makes his living as a charter boat captain, where did you get "rich" from?

I hope this story has a happy ending but it seems like they may have made a very poor decision that cost them. Livelyhood or not the boat was probably insured and they may have tempted fate once too often.

Are you fricking serious the storm went from tropical storm to Cat 5 in less than 32 hours.
And Rich people? The couple lived on the boat and eked out a small salary ferreting vacationers around the islands. They aren't rich as evidenced by the photos on their website.
I could say your an idiot but while this may not be not true Why don't you stop assuming on shite you have no idea about.

You are an idiot man. The reason you wait is because you don't know exactly where the storm is headed until a couple of days out. Now this guy waiting until the day or so before, yeah I'm not sure. But generally speaking 5 days out it has something like a 100-150 mile potential path. Does you no good to head north if the storm dles
