A few questions come to mind in hopes maybe someone can be of help to you.
Did he leave the car behind at the Shell station and walk away or did he drive off?
Are there any distinguishing features on the car, like bumper stickers or window decals for schools/church/neighborhoods etc?
Is there anywhere your brother in law has a tendency to go or talk about often?
He drove off, there are no distinguishing features on the car.
He is generally pretty quite, so no.

So he was in the car??? If so I hope no foul play was involved.

If he left in a car, city/state police will track him down pretty quick. Silver alert with plate number?

Let me first say, prayers for you and your family. I can only imagine how stressful this must feel.
If he drove away, there are cameras all over near the major intersections and near the interstate. There will be a recording somewhere in that area showing him or at least the vehicle driving away.

Last week, a guy literally faked his death and moved to Uzbekistan. It’s not outside the realm of possibility that maybe this dude doesn’t want to be found.

He just drove up with a good Samaritan in the car. I will see what else I can find out. Obviously, we will not let him drive again. This is a very complicated situation with a lot of history.
Thank everyone for your concern and suggestions!

Thank goodness!!! So happy to finish reading this thread and getting a good ending.
Please, Sal. You guys please do something to be able to track him like others have said. Again, very glad to hear he's safely home.

Good luck with that. It can be an ordeal.

Thank you. I went through that with both my parents about 10 years ago.
My mother got lost one day and was so freaked out that when she finally got home, she just handed us the keys. My father, an ex-marine drill sergeant, was not so compliant.

Saying a prayer that he’s found safely.
EDIT: Didn’t read the whole thread, glad he was found!

My co-worker told me there is some kind of tag you can purchase thru Amazon and place in the car that let's police track it. In case it's stolen. Think it cost around $ 25.00 .

I have a friend that put the Life360 app on his dad’s iPhone. His dad would leave the house to go to the neighborhood CVS and end up 25 miles away, wondering how he got there. My friend would call his dad when he didn’t return home and say, dad, stay put, I’m coming to get you. It’s tough to take the keys away, but there is a point you need to.

You can also buy an airtag(s) for $20-$25 each and track him yourself via ‘find my iPhone’. There are all kinds of holders for them like in wallets, phone cases, etc. I have a set on my dogs’ collars just incase they get away from me and get lost.
