From the Advocate article.

quote:

The family of a missing LSU student from Opelousas says they had no idea Kori Gauthier's vehicle had been involved in a crash on the Baton Rouge bridge on Interstate 10 until they learned that she had not shown up to class, work, a doctor's appointment or her dorm. Upon learning that the 19-year-old was missing Wednesday afternoon, the family sprang into action in a desperate attempt to locate the woman.
Spencer Gauthier, her uncle, says they pinged the woman's cell phone location, which led them to a Baton Rouge salvage yard where her phone was found inside her totaled car. The license plate was still on the vehicle, according to her uncle, and her wallet was removed by police who responded to the wreck.

What if she was rear ended, stunned and disoriented. Wanders off and goes over the side of the bridge?

I can see that happening. Or she gets hit somehow and goes over the side and whoever did it, keeps rolling.

Just a strange case all around.

Maybe they only thought they secured her phone as evidence. I agree you’d think that- like the wallet- would be something they’d pick up.
Unless she had two phones.

Her family says that’s how they found out about it. They used find my phone and located it in a “junkyard” with her belongings still inside. This was after her employer called concerned because she didn’t show up for work and didn’t answer her phone.

I don't think this is a thing, right? You would be charged with a crime for happening to pass when someone is jumping off a bridge?

This just happened to a guy outside of Collierville, TN. His wrecked car was found on the side of 385 (big divided highway going around the suburbs), they searched for him for 3-4 days before he was found dead in Noncnonnah Creek a couple of hundred yards from the wreck. Appears he was disoriented from a head injury and wandered into the creek, because of flooding his body didn't show up until the water went down

No but if you rear ended her and she was injured and stumbled off the bridge, it's kinda your fault

This is a weird story. Why didn't the cops reach out to the family when they found the girls car empty with her belonging in the vehicle? I would think if they speculated that she may have jumped, then they would have reached out to the family.

and you don't think the second guy that hit her vehicle who called the police wouldn't have mentioned her vehicle was already smashed in?

I know it's a horrible situation but some of you are trying so hard for this to not be a suicide

Wafb has cameras everywhere... did they check?

WAFB and DOTD cameras are all over that area. The fact that we have so little info to go on tells me the police have a suspicion as to what happened to her and may even have a person of interest but are keeping it close to the chest in hopes that someone says something only the guilty party would know.

I say that now, but the way my mind has gone with this case I'll be back to suspecting suicide in a couple hours. It's very intriguing and sad/tragic.

If they had a person of interest he would have had to thrown her off considering the coast guard and sheriffs office is searching the water and banks

Yeah this is strange. Maybe the police are just getting so bad that this is the norm now.

That may not necessarily be the only reason they're searching below. I mean based on where the car was found, suspecting she fell or jumped (or thrown off) is a pretty decent suspicion right now.

I'm not trying to be a dick but what else would they be searching for?

No, no, I'm not suggesting that they're not searching for her. They're no doubt searching for her down there but what I meant was that given where her car was found, searching below the bridge is a logical response regardless of whatever theory the police may be working with.
