Not sure if the OT is following this story...

quote:

The boat a pair of missing Florida teenagers went missing in two days ago was found off the coast of the Ponce de Leon Inlet in central Florida, the Coast Guard said today. The recovered boat was capsized and damaged, and neither boy was in or around the boat, the Coast Guard said. Austin Stephanos and Perry Cohen, both 14 years old, left Friday morning in their 19-foot, single-engine boat, for a fishing trip, according to the Coast Guard.

The teenagers checked in with their parents at 11 a.m. and were Snapchatting photos of the boat and their fishing gear around noon. The teenagers were last seen at 1:30 p.m., buying more than $100 worth of fuel at a marina in Jupiter, Florida.

The boys were reported missing by their parents about 5 p.m. Friday. Perry's stepfather, Nick Korniloff, said today they don’t know how much food and water the boys have, but insisted the boys "know what they're doing out there."

Two 14 year olds go fishing in the Atlantic Ocean by themselves. Solid parenting.

So your 14 year old wants to go God knows where to fish and you let him go alone? Cool.

Ponce Inlet is not a dangerous place to fish.

Their boat was found 70 miles off the coast at Ponce de Leon inlet. They were fishing around Jupiter, FL. Well south of there.

Not if you ask those two boys.

I hope they had on their PFDs - if they did they have a chance of making it.

I can not imagine what the parents are going through right now.

Our kids are not meant to be treated like fragile egg shells. Let them live. Their time on earth is short either way.

They might still be living if they had an adult on board.

Yeah time on earth is short. But I bet they would have liked to make it longer than 14 years.

Wrong. Those kids should have been home playing video games like good parents would have them doing.

14 year old boys are gonna find adventures to get into. Danger is exhilarating.

I feel sorry for some of you who never knew a little danger and had helicopter parents.

Did mommy need to hold your wittle weenie when you made pee pee too?

I mean, it sucks for the parents and the boys, but danger is everywhere. You can't blame this one on parenting.

Maybe. But parents make those tough choices every day as their kids grow. 14 isn't that young.

I'm 35 and you wouldn't catch me offshore in a 19 ft single engine boat
