This is not the case. I am a Christian and do not feel like I am being punished. Since you said "every body" I guess that includes you. How has God punished you?

If you believe it is ALL just a load of hooey, why do you really care? You seemingly, have it ALL figured out. Just don't worry about Eternity.

If Jesus were hung instead of crucified, would a noose be the symbol of the religion?

I feel like if I were killed a certain way, the last thing I would want to see would be the instrument of my death become the symbol of my movement.

Also the crucifix wasn't used that way (as a symbol) until hundreds of years after the founding of the church.

Well if only the pope would have let Henry get his divorce then half the protestants would be Catholic.
Let's not even start on how many subsets came from John Calvin.

Your understanding of the concept of original sin is childlike and petulant.

The use of the crucifix (and cross) as a symbol is a tutorial on Christology. It is a symbol of God’s love for us despite our sinfulness. God became man, and experienced our suffering, which we caused. By his death, a willing sacrifice by the God, our sinfulness was expiate and death was conquered for all.

It’s a profound message for which the cross and crucifix are symbols. The crucifix emphasizing the mortal sacrifice for our salvation, and the cross emphasizing the resurrection and conquering of death.

His quip reduces the profound to something distorted in its oversimplification.

The Garden of Eden story is an allegory. If you believe that morality exists, also known as natural law, then you must acknowledge that it comes from the freedom of making knowledgeable choices. Animals don’t commit sin, they merely act on instinct. They lack that certain something which gives humans the ability to know right from wrong, and the freedom to choose.

Original sin is an understanding that men, having the capacity to know right from wrong, are strongly tempted and often do choose to do wrong. The consequences of those choices is also part of the natural world which God created. Suffering and death is a part of the package of our existence. To separate them from the good, the joy, the happiness, diminishes us and takes away our freedom.

That is what is meant by men being created in God’s image.
