The immaculate conception is that of Mary being free of original sin. It's not the time God came down from heaven to give it deeply to Mary.

Mary never sinned? I thought Jesus was the only human (is he considered human?) that never sinned?

Mary was born without original sin. Not that she never sinned in life.

This entire thread is confusing as shite. Idk whether people are being ironic or simply dumbasses.

Hey Slack, most people think the IC is Mary giving birth to Jesus without a human father. A virgin birth. Not realizing it has not a fricking thing to do with Jesus, except for Mary being "free from sin at her birth". People seem very confused. Maybe this is outside of S. La people don't know their Catholic Holidays. Still annoys me and I don't even practice Catholicism anymore.

I think Mary sinned, but she was born free from original sin by virtue of her unborn son.

Writing that out seems a bit goofy, but it's a significant belief in Catholicism nonetheless.

ETA - apparently the Church teaches Mary was free from both personal and original sin. I was wrong.

I think the Holy Spirit is the one who sprayed the guts. Which was actually god anyway somehow.

Remember that time Adam ate that apple?

Well we all carry that a-hole's sin around at birth.

Wasn't Eve the damn charlatan who tricked the innocent male? She is the founder of original sin.

Speaking of misconceptions...

The fruit is not named. Apple comes from a Latin-based pun. The Latin word for evil is mal and the word for apple is malum.

I missed that when I read my Bible. Of course this is probably straight from the teachings of the church ( tradition) rather than from the text.

And was most often associated with left handed people (mal, bad, left, bad) right hand of God, good. I am a lefty.

You missed them getting tossed out of the most awesome club ever because they didn't follow rules? Where have you been??!! Does your religion not have Baptism? It is to wash away their "original evil".

Correct. It's just the fruit from the tree of knowledge.

I missed where Mary avoided the taint of original sin despite being the seed of man. Now that is a miracle.

That’s why the Catholic Church is here, to fill you in on the things the Bible forgot to mention

Hence the Feast of the Immaculate Conception being a holy day of obligation in the Catholic Church.
