Looking for some recommendations on mirrorless cameras and lenses. Looking to spend around $1,000 give or take. I was looking at DSLR cameras but the size of the mirrorless is appealing to me.

Looking to take pics of outdoors scenery and wildlife mostly. Either on hiking or hunting trips. Will also be using it on travel destinations planned in the future (New York, other large cities, Europe, Alaska, Glacier, etc.).

Just admit you are looking for a spy camera to hide in a ladies room stall.

Ive got t a Fujifilm XT-1 and it kicks arse. The "kit lens" is the best kit lens you can get.

Weatherproof, great build quality and awesome color reproduction. The XT-1 is an older model but their new models run around $1800 for the body only

Do you have previous experience with this level of camera? If not, are you willing to learn or are you more likely to just shoot on auto?
If the latter then just spend half that on an entry level DSLR.

I'm astonished someone downvoted rogers pics.

Thank you Roger for the info and pics.

I took some of the local snow capped Mts behind our lake this winter and had some of rogers previously posted work in mind at the time. I've been claiming I'm going to upgrade.

Yeah it's difficult to get a good mirrorless and good lens for less than $1000.

Olympus has a few but not a fan of the micro 4/3rds system. Older Sonys, maybe but their lower priced lenses suck

The EVF on mirrorless is a game changer. You see exactly what your final image will be

Just get a Nikon or Canon for less than $500 unless you're a serious photographer. But if that was the case, you wouldn't need to ask this question on TD

If one were to Google "mirrorless camera" would that raise a red flag with the FBI watchdogs?

I love Fuji but for ease and what you're looking for you might want to look at the Sony RX 10 line.

Nice photos Roger.

For the newbs: The biggest differences for cameras when you start jumping up in price is:
Size of sensor
Ability in low light
Shutter speed

Lenses obviously are huge with the last two listed items. Most people just want sharp photos and will over pay on a camera without realizing how most cameras work.

Sony a6300. Maybe could find a used Sony a7s or Panasonic gh4 for not too much more than that range. For shooting wildlife though, a lot people prefer to use a longer lens which can get pricey

I’ve had several point and shoots. My current one is dated and I want something better quality. I’ve used a friends DSLR a few times and am willing to learn.

I’m willing to spend more than a $1,000 if I need to. Looking for something to take good pics to maybe put on the wall at home (have metal prints currently of places/scenes i’ve visited). Would also like something that takes good pics of wildlife since I do a lot of hunting/fishing/bow hunting (whitetail, duck, goose, elk, offshore Gulf of Mexico, etc). In hunting/wildlife situations, need something to take descent/good pics at 50-100+ yards.

I have already spent $400-600 in the past on point and shoots. Looking to improve on those pics.
