Sony A5100 can be found on eBay for less than half of what you want to spend. Great camera.

Looking for something to take good pics
There is your problem right there. Cameras don't take good/bad pics, photographers take good/bad pics.
I own a $2500 Canon 5D MK III and a Canon T1i, that I bought used for $100. The biggest difference between these two cameras is what I can do with the cameras. Of course the $2500 camera allows me a lot more options, but if I was just walking around taking photos during the day (landscape/street photography), you probably couldn't tell which image came from which camera.
A camera is just a tool, as well as the lenses.
The first image below was taken by my 10 year old daughter using a T1i and a kit lens, and the second one was taken by me with my $2500 camera and a $1500 lens.
This does not mean my 10 year old daughter is as good as a photographer as me, the image is maybe one of two keepers from the 100+ she took, it was pure luck. It just shows that high dollar cameras don't take better images than cheaper cameras when it comes to a normal lighting situation.
Don't go buy a high dollar camera off the bat. Buy something nice (which can be had for less than $500) and learn photography.
The best advice given to me when I first started (and I didn't listen but wish I would have) was learn the rules of photography first. You must know the rules of photography before you try and break the rules. If you don't do this, you will produce garbage.

I think we are starting to get into semantics here. When I said good, I was talking quality of the camera and not the quality of the photographer.
Like I've mentioned before, I've owned several point and shoot cameras over the years in the $400-$600 range. Looking to upgrade from there.
