Every resistant motherfricker acts the same way upon arrest. They'll fight, kick and bite you for ten minutes but once you finally get them subdued and try to get the cuffs on, they scream bloody murder about how they're in enormous pain and have a bad leg or trick knee or whatever.
I'm in federal law enforcement so my experiences might differ from a regular patrol officer, but the above is largely true of those resisting arrest.
It's maddening how/what they'll scream about when they were just acting hard and tough seconds ago, agging on the officer(s). They'll go straight from "bitch arse cops, bring it! I'll frick you up, I didn't do nothing!" to "OWWWWWW! You're hurting my leg!! Those cuffs are too tight, my wrists!!"

Kneeling on the neck to gain compliance of a combative suspect is common practice. The goal isn't to kill him but to get control of his hands for restraint purposes.
Now, I wasn't trained in MN and I received training from other Fed officers, but this is NOT true (and I can't imagine it is anywhere). We DO NOT kneel on the neck to subdue anyone, we were trained to place a knee directly between the shoulder blades to cuff an unruly detainee and specifically told to avoid putting the knee too high near the neck.
This officer may have had all he could handle from the perp and was just in a hurry to get him cuffed (I haven't watched any video), but I can say with near certainty that he was never trained to kneel directly on the neck.
Could it have been an accident? Absolutely. Does he have reason to ignore the dude screaming bloody murder? Probably, due to past experience with nearly every perp doing the same. Did he still frick up, not follow procedure, and single-handedly kill someone as a result? Absolutely.
I'm not a "back the blue" guy and can fully recognize when an officer fricks up, this guy probably did. It's not a racial issue though, it's a training issue. It'll never be fixed until we recognize it for what it is, instead of what it isn't.

Who gives a shite what the “goal” is if the person ends up dead

I suggest you watch the video.
The cop is casual as can be while having his knee on the guys neck for over 5 minutes. While he's cuffed.

That’s some sick shite. They murdered that man. There’s no two ways around that.

What’s everyone going to do if the autopsy on that guy comes back and there’s a cocktail in his system that would make Jim Morrison blush?
Does that matter or are we just anti cop today?
This board is so random with topics.
COVID19 deaths “but muh preexisting conditions”
-none of that matters if you die while being arrested tho
We hate twitter cancel culture
-TD 30sec after a cop interaction video “Fire them all and hang them by a tree!!”
ETA I’m just commenting on the random dynamics of this board, not whether the cops were right or not as the video was removed when I tried to watch and I really don’t care that much to track one down.

I really would like you to watch the video and give us your thoughts as a trained LEO. I think the CBS News link on page 1 has whole video.
The guy is unconscious for SEVERAL MINUTES and the cop still has his knees on the guys neck.
There is an off duty Minneapolis paramedic among the bystanders watching this go down and she is begging them to check his pulse with no response from cop.
It really is mind blowing how long it goes on.

Yeah...I’m the son of a longtime NOPD officer and very much “back the blue”, but the long version of that video was pretty damning. He knelt on his neck for 7 or 8 minutes, and for a good 4-5 minutes after the guy quit speaking and moving.

Also happens to coincide with what was probably an extensive struggle with police.
How often do you hit an 8 ball then go run a mile?
Just simply pointing out facts everyone seems to over look.
And judging by that still shot the guy is partially rolled onto his side and the knee is in the shoulder blade area.

Yet none of the cops show any signs of exertion. No heavy breathing. No sweat dripping. Fat Bruce Lee standing there like nothing is going on.
Just say you agree with the "comply or die" mantra.
It's ok as it's already obvious you do.

Update-4 cops involved have been fired.
That was quick.

That was fricked up. I mean what was going on in that kneeling cops head?
“Yeah I’m killing this dude but if I get up it will prove the people filming me right and I can’t have that.”

Just get rid of white cops altogether.
I know whites don't do a lot of crimes but you still need some white cops just in case.
