Minneapolis police body cam of shooting

The shooting took place after Minneapolis Police Officers Justin Schmidt and Ryan Kelly responded to a 911 call of a man firing a gun into the air on the city's north side. A transcript of the 911 call previously released by the city included pleas from a caller to dispatch to send help because a man with a bottle of liquor was firing a handgun in the air and into the ground, the Star Tribune reported. The video released Sunday shows the two officers pulling their cruiser up to Blevins, who's seated on a curb near a woman with a child in a stroller. As the officers pull up, one says, "He's got a gun!" Blevins jumps up and runs, as the officers yell "Stop, stop! Put your hands up! I will f------ shoot you!"
This video clearly shows the guy with a gun, evading police and then pulling the gun and pointing it towards the police. It could not be any more obvious. The family reaction?
quote:
A gun was recovered at the scene, but some witnesses had disputed that Blevins was armed, saying he was only carrying a bottle or a cup. Sydnee Brown, Blevins' cousin, told the Star Tribune family members were shown the video before public release, and that it showed to her that Blevins wasn't a threat to police. "He didn't deserve to die," Brown said. "He wasn't a threat when [the officers] approached him. They didn't view him as a human being."
What does it take for people to accept that a police shooting is justified? Do the police need to let the guy shoot them a couple of times first?

For some people it is impossible.

That still wouldn’t be enough justification for a lot of people.

Why are the cops yelling "I will shoot you", it doesn't help their image.
I agree the guy looks guilty as frick, but it just seems like a poor choice of words.
If you have a gun, and you run from cops, you better keep your hands away from it.

These body cams are actually beginning to become a great asset in these cases and backfiring for the BLM folks. They won't ever stop making excuses though.

So much stupidity in your post. They are giving warning that they will shoot letting them know what the consequences are about to be if they do not do as their told. How about don't run from the cops if you have a gun?

I thought this was going to be one of those deals where he is running and tries to pull his pants up or steady the gun in his waistband before getting shot. The video clearly shows that he drew the gun and was turning around to point it at the police. It just doesn't get more clear. But the family is willing to watch that and still make statements to whip up the public. I just wish the family would say:
"We loved him and wish he wasn't dead but he made a bad choice."
Why anger the public and prompt demonstrations and possibly more violence?

"Looks guilty"? He's running from the cops with a gun hanging out of his pocket. Telling someone you're going to shoot them if they don't stop what they're doing can diffuse the situation without having to fire a shot. What would you like him to say? Excuse me sir, can you please stop running? I'd like to talk to you about that possible weapon in your pocket.

I'm going to take an educated guess and say that they are letting the person know the consequences of their potential actions. I don't see anything wrong with it if the person is armed and resisting arrest.
I watched the body camera footage several times. I can't figure out which hand had a gun in it the whole time. The only time I clearly see a gun is when it falls to the ground after he's shot.
A picture was posted by the police showing what they believe to be the gun, after the first shots of the police were fired.
Nevermind. Posted all this before I saw the slo-mo video in the OP.

It's pretty impressive that those cops were able to make such a split second decision like that. 95% of the public doesn't understand how fast this stuff happens.

I'm not saying he wasn't justified. I'm just surprised that those are the words he went with.
I agree he should have complied, just surprised.
And as for stupidity. frick you.

fricking idiot deserved to die. Disobeying lawful orders and reaching down for his gun.
That’ll be ignored by BLM. He was going to college and shite. You’re supposed to ignore his felonies in that case.

I'm not totally convinced that's the gun though,
Then how is the gun on the ground off of his right hand at the end? The same right hand that’s holding it in that picture...
And if that’s not a gun like you say, did it disappear somehow?
