quote:There aren't enough jobs man. That's the major issue. You used to just be able to walk into a place, talk to the manager, and get a decent 40hr a week job starting at 35k. That shite hasn't been a thing for decades now. The older generation doesn't seem to understand that.
I would definitely be saying frick that.
I do what I do because it's the only option. I can't afford to go back to school, both monetarily and for the amount of time it takes. I'd have to go get my masters degree to even match what my parents were able to walk into out of undergrad.
Tell that to the other gen's and they'll say you can always work at McDonalds. To which the response of most millennial is, "Mothefricker. I have a college degree. 60K in student debt, still live with my parents, the employee pay scale hasn't matched with inflation since the 50's, the jobs that are open require 3-4 years of prior experience, pay into a social security I won't be able to have, and you want me to flip burgers?"

am a millennial and I can tell you that we don't work as hard as our parents. I have been fortunate and am very young for my job and can tell you that there was a lot of luck and knowing people to get my position. My dad at this age was working his arse off including weekends to be able to keep up because of his responsibility load at work. I couldn't hold near the weight he did because of how much this age was coddled growing up.
I work way harder than my parents. My mom was a school teacher, I give her props for that cus I could never do it, but she had summers off. I have had one weekend off in the last 5 years. It's been 8 years since I haven't worked at least 45 hours in 1 week and that's because I was in college.

All of this. If you want to know one of the major factors, it's actually illegal immigration and corporate abuse of the H1B1 system.

But the factories and construction sites are not going to produce without, you guessed it, millenials.
Foreign labor is cheap, and the people are glad to have a job. That's why factory jobs in the US are gone. Construction hires illegals. Problems solved.

Yeaaaaa
There was a stretch where I had 3 jobs in college. Paid for that shite myself and bought a house a year after graduating. I've worked hard.

I am not saying there is not outliers. I think both of us know plenty of people who worked their arse off through highschool and college. I am also willing to bet we know a lot more who coasted and expected shite to fall in front of them without exerting effort.

I'm just saying it just depends on the situation and job. No I don't think my parents worked harder. Yours may have.
Basically I was replaying to the, my dad had to work weekends. Like no person under 30 hasnt ever had to work on weekends.

Depends on the work to me. My father was a truck driver, and that takes a toll on your body day in and day out.
I work more hours, but I have a desk job. Do I work more hours than my dad, yes. Is it taking the same toll on me as it did him, no.
