Student loans are definitely a problem. You can still work your way through school though, my wife just did it.

If I were 21 again, I'd go the blue collar route and work in a mine, or construction. Those can be 6 fig. jobs around here.

Apprentices get paid to learn.

If I could do it over again i'd join the fricking military i love my job and nashville is a great city.. but it's tough to afford a decent place near the city

My fiancé is back in school for the medical field and we are working through it. I'm not going to let it cripple our plans or what she wants in life.

salaries are pretty inflated in Alaska so it's possible to make that in construction without a degree. It's just really hard to get people up there. Plus they only work 8-9 months a year

Gotta love the old "we didn't ask to be born" meme. I quit using that one when I was about, oh, 14 or so?

yeah just to put it in perspective.

100K in Baton Rouge is roughly equivalent to 140K in Anchorage or Juneau

Its outrageous.

For a 1,400 sq ft house with no yard in a good area inside Nashville close to downtown (10-15 minutes), you're paying prices that could get you a 2,500 sq ft house in Southdowns in Baton Rouge on a good street with a good yard.

I see my friends in BR buying 300k homes that would be 500k in the desired neighborhoods in Nashville. Bothers me so much

But I am willing to deal with the absurd housing prices because this city is soooooooooooooooooooooo awesome.

Yeah thing is it's outrageous people pay for that in Baton Rouge because it sucks compared to most other cities in the South. Without LSU, Baton Rouge is Alexandria

This is what's wrong with millennials.

They agree to work for less because if they don't someone else will, then they complain that other generations made more.

Millennials are to blame for their shitty low standards.

I work in construction and we have had kids right out of college ask how many days a week can they work from home. They get a blank stare right before letting them know it's a 6 day a week deal working on a construction site.

Maybe they would have more job negotiation power if:
A. Subsidized loans didn't flood the market with degree holders
B. 10s of millions of H1B1 visa holders and illegal immigrants weren't sucking up massive quantities of jobs
C. Every other entry level job required 3-5 years of relevent experience, causing every applicant to get funnelled to the few that don't require that.

How much was her tuition? How many hours did she take?

Tuition is cheap in Louisiana and even then it's $5000 a semester at ULL and LSU. Add in rent, gas, utilities, books, misc, etc. and you're looking at $10,000 a semester. If you're taking a full course load it's nearly impossible to make that kind of money AND go to school unless you have a very cush job or you're a stripper.

Millennials complain about immigrant labor undercutting them while buying newer cookie cutter style homes built with Mexican labor.

They complain about the race to the bottom but are more than happy to buy things made with the sweat and tears of Asian women and children.
