Yeah screw this young generator thinking life should be enjoyable. Life is about misery and hating your family until you retire then you sit on your couch watching Fox News until you die.

Did you go into the law arena with a plan and connections in place?
If not, you went into arguably the most saturated career path in the US

yes. easily.
You should probably get out of New Orleans, there's a much better reality out there.

I thought I did. When I left for law school, I had a path lined up. I arrived on the market 2 years too late (despite only being in law school for the standard 3 years). My connections all went out of state or retired while I was in law school, and my old career field wouldn’t touch me with a law degree for whatever reason. I ended up completely f$&ked.

Connectivity is significantly easier now than it has ever been in the past, and cheaper.
This idea that you have to live in expensive areas to survive is asinine.

You never know. I mean LS is a shitty proposition now unless you have a job or go to a top school and do well (or unless you're willing to be a lawyer at all costs and don't care about the money).
The recession hit when I was in law school and the 2800/week and 100 per diem summer associateships pretty much vanished overnight. It was chaos, all my plans were out the window. It took a while to get settled.

Not if you are flying southwest.

Exactly. We are living at the farm in SE Oklahoma that I bought about 12 years ago. It's in the "middle of nowhere " to some people but you'd be hard pressed to find a more beautiful, peaceful and private farm in the country. Even in the middle of nowhere, it's an easy drive to DFW airport, etc.
My wife wants to move at some point, so I have purchased land in Idaho and Montana but I think she wants to move elsewhere.

The legal market here is pretty damn good at the moment. I basically doubled my income within two years and had a list of other similar paying jobs from the recruiter. I didn’t finish top 5% or anything, either.

Absolutely. Again, people have more options than ever.

I just had a one year gap between undergrad and grad school when I worked 80 hrs/week and saved up to live through grad school. In the three working years since grad school combined, I haven’t made near what I made in that one gap year and haven’t gotten anything remotely similar, all while working almost as many hours and paying way more for my housing. The last two years, I’ve made less than $50k each year.
My wife kicked me out (I found out I had a medical issue that would prevent me from getting her pregnant) right at the end of grad school (her parents owned the home we rented) so she could leave me for another man. We divorced 6 months after I graduated, and she was re-married the day the ink was dry, and had a kid almost exactly 9 months later.
I don’t pay alimony or anything like that, and we had no children. I did pay a settlement, but that divorce was cheap compared to most of the stories I’ve heard.

Can they help you if you go to their area?

I loved law school, but my writing skills weren't up to snuff when I got there. It took me a while to figure out what law professors wanted, so my grades were crappy. I aced the bar with very little effort, though, because I had figured out how to study and write by then.
I couldn't find law jobs even remotely in what I was interested in, and got stuck doing car accidents and hurricane damage claims on behalf of the insurance companies. HATE every minute of it. I've got an interview for something much more interesting to me coming up soon, so I have my fingers crossed.
It was the ex-wife that helped push me into going to law school.

Yeah, paying a premium here too, although it's mostly shortages in key areas/groups. That said, I know a lot of firms need quality warm bodies so the demand is there.
