I do blame higher ed, and k-12 ed, and their parents, and hr people, and the givernment's ponzy scheme of student loans and aid...

There's a lot of blame to go around.

i'm 43. I employee a 22 year old, just recently graduated.
a few things I notice that is different from 20 years ago.

I didn't have a $200 phone bill or a $600 phone at his age.
I didn't have cable TV until I was in my 30s.
He has a $2500 TV hanging from his wall.
I lived in a shite hole with no central heat and air at his age. I drove a piece of junk car. He drives a brand new car with a $600/mo car payment.

It's just different today. there is a lot for kids to spend their money on.

Oh, come on. There's always been a lot to spend money on. The IBM XT was a $5000 computer when it came out and that's just one example. Now computers are a dime a dozen. Stop acting like older people lived in caves and there was nothing to spend (waste) money on.

This...exactly.
The college kids and newly employed of today are not willing to do without and then they bitch because they can't afford life. They need to try living 4 people to a 2 bedroom apt with your stereo on masonry bricks and 2 x 12's with furniture that you felt lucky to have gotten from friends and family.....and a 10 year old car.
None of these kids are willing to start there. Actually, those days were some of the best days of my life and did more to push me to where I am today than anything else....

I think (hope) he was being sarcastic as to what millennials think they have to spend their money on in order to 'live'

Lol. First, his bill is likely half of that. Second, the cost of cell phones has always been high. Companies just weren't as transparent as to how you paid for it. Instead of landline like you had, he has a cell phone.

You can buy a 70 in 4K TV for half that, so again you're likely over exaggerating.

The one area you are likely accurate about is the car note. That's the biggest problem with American's of every generation.

you can drive and a truck and make 60-75k a year as long as you can fog a mirror. Tough job though. You aren't home much, but you can earn decent living.

And in 15 years or so, those vehicles will be driven automatically. Sounds like a shitty career choice.

More realistically... 5 years. 10 for the complete loss of truck drivers

I think this is where we went wrong. If you were better educated, wouldn't you just get a better job?

Just because you took some gender studies courses one time does not mean you are better educated.

Did it ever cross their mind there just might be a reason for that beyond racial discrimination?

I have 3 kids. All between the ages of 25-30.

All with college degrees, and married to someone with a college degree. None of them graduated with student debt

They all are homeowners. They wont pay more just to live in the city. They stayed with us until they married, because they didn't want to hand someone money, when they had a free place to live. They also followed the rules when they lived at home

None of them have a car note. They still drive the cars they had in college.

They get new cell phones between 2-3 years apart

All have company based health insurance, and retirements plans. Salaries range from $39-50k.

So you're saying that I have a point? There are other ways to make money in the music industry and millennials are proving that all of the time.

Millennials where I work Intern for $26 per hour then are guaranteed a job out of college starting at 64k, and we hire a bunch every year.

Wish i had it so terrible at their age.

I wish I didn't have to pay $1150 for a 1 bedroom 750 sq ft apartment yet here we are.

Also, what industry and are you hiring?
