Scruffy loves how people have this notion that waiters in all other countries are just the worst because they don’t have tips.

15% to 20% has been the standard tipping percentage for at least the last 30 years. Where the frick have y'all been raised?
huh, this is suggesting that 20% is the norm, which is different than what you just described. Which is my point.

Ive worked as a bellman and valet in the past. Servers dont do shite compared to them and other tipping jobs.

No, but the level of service isn't the same. And you know it.

Some of the best service I've ever seen was overseas, and no tipping was expected in that culture.

Scruffy, that is a dumb argument.

If it wasn't expected to receive tips, you wouldn't expect one. You just do your job and move on.

If you are making 2 bucks an hour, work your arse off, and get nothing I return, you would complain.

Wait till you have medacaid patients and work equally as hard for25% pay.

You'll pay for the employee one way or the other. You can either tip and have discretion to give more or less of a tip based on the quality of service. Or the restaurant does away with tipping, pays servers themselves, and raises menu prices by 15% or so to factor in their increased payroll costs.

It's amazing some people don't get this.

Exactly.

I don't think you know what your point is, because you sound confused.

It's not hard. Repeat after me. For the last 30 years, it has been the standard, the norm, whatever you want to call it - to tip a server anywhere from 15 to 20 percent.

And I say the last 30 years only because that's how long it was for me with eating in restaurants. It has probably been longer than that.

I would 100% prefer this. The servers don't though.

Well yeah, bellman and valet jobs a cover a wider scope of dirties. That doesn’t mean that table servers don’t work their asses off.

Most restaurant work is pretty damned tough.

Same for me (unless I'm unhappy with the service), but if you're closing out a tab of only 5 or 6 drinks that comes out to $40, you tip $8 for only being handed 5 or 6 drinks?

For drinks that don't take any skill to make/open/pour, it's $1 each for me. I'll tip more than $1 for a well made craft cocktail though, but those types of places aren't all that frequent for me.

Are you being intentionally retarded? The baseline used to be 15%, now it appears to be 20%.

20%, based on the range YOU provided, was the upper level of the range for great service. Now it's the baseline. You're the confused one. My point is the goalppast has moved from 15 to 20%.
