I'm pretty convinced Jimbeaux changed his mind on page 1 and is just continuing to go down with the ship out of sport

I suppose you can’t help it.

This is actually his only decent point. It's a pain in the arse to get DD to update your menu items and it's pretty much only done to update entire menu items, not to let customers know you're out of a single small item. That's why in the small print you agree to substitutions.
Some businesses have their shite together and the app effectively communicates what they have, what they don't, and what the specials are. It just takes a human to update it once when the status of an item changes, then the computer passes it along every time.

his mind would be blown in NYC
there are delivery people going into small businesses, walk up apartment buildings, giant office buildings, etc. to deliver food and don't miss a beat

Ah, surprise. Kooky calling someone else stupid.
Also, pro-tip for the stupid: your phone and all computers can copy-paste, so if you have crazy delivery instructions write them once and save them. Copy-paste into the app whenever you need them.

I’m a 56 year old Xer and I order on an app every chance I get. So much easier and you accrue awards.

I actually just wanted to start a discussion on the topic and see what the benefits to Door Dash type services were in the minds of those who use it frequently.
What I’ve learned is that:
1) People are really sensitive about the topic for some reason.
2) Reinforced the notion that most posters are aggressive and/or defensive as frick (no surprise really)
3) The devil is in the details, probably. At first, I wasn’t even thinking about fast food delivery. And all this talk about lousy employees, being put on hold, loud environment, I have to say that if I experienced that a lot, I would see the benefit of on-line ordering. However, the employees in the places that I order food, usually for pick up, are quite nice to talk to.

I think the case against DoorDash, at least as a good use of money, is an easy one. It has a place, of course (we used it extensively when my wife was pregnant during COVID and w/ a newborn), but it's most often overpaying for food that won't hold up well via delivery.
I don't think the case against online ordering is very good, but if I lived somewhere where the service industry was pleasant and helpful, I might feel differently.

You do know who you replied to don't you?

By ordering online, you take out at least one part of the the human element…the part where the person taking your order fricks it up. And as far as inadequate directions, well, it seems like any idiot with a mobile phone can put an address into the gps and get to where he needs to be.

I cant stand having to talk to someone. I am an older millenial, but I have passed on ordering from a restaurant if I have to call. It's 2022, no need to take my order on the phone. Let me order online and pick it up, much easier and better record of what I ordered.
This might be the most honest post in the thread. I suspected this was the major issue. Most people just don’t like to admit it. That might explain the aggressive/defensive nature of the responses.

I have no desire to speak to anyone at the restaurant.
I rarely order online for delivery, but the only downside I've seen is that sometimes the online menu is out of date and/or not the full menu.

ordering over the phone is clearly superior (especially giving them your credit card info) and the apps are only popular because people don't want to talk on the phone.

I have no problem speaking to people, I spend most of my day at work doing just that.
I find no need to speak to someone who doesn't give a shite what I have to see, and in the off chance they do has a million distractions that could cause confusion when there is a quicker and more accurate alternative.
You understand this but for whatever reason have dug into your ever moving and absurd take
