It still baffles me that people will pay (in some cases) double the price for food to be delivered. And even if you pick it up, those services like DoorDash have marked up prices vs just calling the restaurant.
I'm not talking about Doordash. I'm talking about my workday lunches. I'm using an app if at all possible so my stuff is waiting on me when I walk in.
Besides, don't come up in here with your Gen X gibberish.

Meh, I agree for fast food and the like.
But if you only do it when you have coupons, I can get the same thing I'd get via carryout for roughly the same amount, tip included.
Pretty regularly get 25% off $35 dollar order or something like that.

What I hear you folks saying is that you are severely limited in your ability to effectively communicate vocally, person to person, over the telephone.
I’d like to see a study done to compare the accuracy and effectiveness of on-line ordering versus telephone ordering, especially if you include examples of non-standard orders.
Non-standard meaning: delivery address is a business, multi-unit, hard to park, or hard to find, etc, or
Special instructions for the food: hold the mayo, no salt on the fries, grilled not fried, etc.

if they drop to the wrong location, that's when you call them.

Bro do you live in the Southeast
This is an important part of the equation.

Person on the phone can’t mess up putting in your order

Even then I don't call them. I tap two buttons and they resend it or refund me with extra credits. It's annoying but nearly instant.

Nothing better than calling a loud busy restaurant where you can’t hear the employee and the employee can’t hear you. The employee is also at the cash register taking care of an in house diner. Cross your fingers they get the order right.

There are food delivery robots on campus here, with an insane markup, yet I see them zooming all over. I guess kids don't care when it's $16 for a Starbucks coffee on Daddy's credit card.

This thread is pretty peak boomer. Congratulations on being so lame.
I love how you limit convenience solely to millennials and zoomers.

I rarely get food delivered but I prefer ordering through an app for pickup/curbside/drive-thru if I can.
The only one where I don't is Jersey Mike's because they don't allow full customization...or at least they didn't the last time I tried. You can enter text in a comment box for the order but they never read it.

I don't see the connection between ordering online vs. telephone and the order being delivered to the wrong address.
If you give the wrong delivery address using either method, the result will be the same. The order wasn't delivered to the wrong address because it was submitted via an app instead of verbally.

It's harder for a computer to mess up an order than a kid who's on drugs and staring at some girl he wants to hook up with.

My wife works with this girl that's always complaining about being broke but she orders Uber Eats and the like 2-3 times per week. She orders Jimmy Johns to be delivered turning an $8 sandwich into $16 so she doesn't have to drive a half mile down the road and get it

It’s easier on you and the staff.
Generally your payment options are saved. And the employee doesn’t have to stop cooking your food to answer the phone.

Anyone ever received surprise delivery food? Had that happen before.

Gen Xer checking in.
If it keeps me from having to speak to someone who can’t conjugate, give me the online option every time.

I would think ordering online has a higher chance of the correct address since you are entering it and can double check before submitting vs. assuming the person on the phone heard you and entered it in correctly.

I thought the title would tweak some titties, so sue me!
I’m a Gen X, so there’s that. frick the Boomers.
Also, I’ve ordered on-line many times. I could/should have made a whole separate thread about the on-line food delivery companies and their huge make-ups and altered menus, but I made it more general.
In my experience, ordering by phone, while having its drawbacks, is simply better and more accurate all round.
