It's amazing how faux snooty some people get once they move to a big city, and forget their upbringing.
As a guy who moved back to a small town where he grew up, it's not that amazing. I witness it all the time.

That's why i'm here, trying to pass my elder millennial advice onto the younger millennials.

Forget their upbringing? WTF are you talking about??
I have never lived in a rural town. Granted BR sucks and all...but it still isn't some rural town.

I suppose I'm trying to say the most ostentatious people are those newly urbanized and of new wealth. I think it's a form of self loathing for what they once were.

What used to be starter homes are in shite neighborhoods now
Without your parents money, what kind of neighborhood are you in now?
I think your life is about to kick your arse.

You’re so predictable
. Just because you keep saying something doesn’t make it true.

No way I'm reading an article about success that includes a guy buying a $9,000 house, my F*cking refrigerator cost more than that.

I'm guessing "Starter home" doesn't mean anything anymore.
We tried that route in 2008 after getting married because our parents told us the worst that would happen was we’d break even.
Ten years later, and after the typical maintenance costs that come with home ownership, we broke even.
I think young people coming into the market the past few years have it good. For those of us who tried to take the route that our parents took but tried it in 2008/2009, we got fricked.

Let's say I'm a 22 year old female nurse, grew up in an urban / suburban area. Like the vast majority of people my age, I enjoy going out with friends, dating, and would like to find a husband and get married sometime in the next 4-6 years. The rural nursing job has fewer benefits and pays 70% of the nursing jobs in the nearest medium sized city.
Sell me on rural america.
Sell me on rural america.

Your advice comes from personal experience. I spend a lot of time in rural America and I can tell you that whoever said "remote jobs" clearly has not spent time there. A lot of rural places lack adequate broadband and cellular service. Certainly insufficient connectivity to perform the type of work needed.
And I know these aren't the only options. You have suburbia as well. I have lived many places including the Bay Area where people would commute two hours each way to work and yet they only lived 40 miles away from work/the city. The comment of "you have to sacrifice something" is a depressing way to look at things. The people in the Bay basically do not see their children because they're not home until 7 or later.
And the thing is, I know you can buy a house that isn't rural and isn't in the middle of a city because that's what we did. We bought on the outskirts of a large city, but to pretend it is something "everyone" can do by "sacrificing" something is incredibly naive and shows me that you don't know (or care?) About life outside your own personal bubble.

Motivated, resourceful people. Not everyone's cut out for it.
You'll figure out what's important in life and make it work, one way or another. No one is a victim of circumstance, they just believe they are. There's a million excuses why things can't get done, and most people will find one.
If the top priority in life is career, then you'll be a slave to your career and the circumstances it brings and no one can convince you otherwise.
If your top priority is life away from work, family, recreation etc..you'll find a place that fits you well and make that work, if you're resourceful.

These clowns want 23 year olds to buy shitty houses 50 miles from their job. There’s no reasoning with them

I don't want you to do anything. You'll figure out soon enough that this lifestyle you want isn't something you are going to walk into.
