RWB probably doesn't have that kind of name recognition in Congress.
It doesn't and that isn't the purpose of it. Younger vets don't want to go to a bar and hang with old people telling war stories. We want to do fun, physical activities outside with people who are like minded. I don't want to "run" for office in the VFW. Nobody has time for that outside of retired old folks.

Also agree with this. I've read that they did the same thing to the Nam guys and that's what put them in this predicament in the first place.
Plenty of Vietnam Vets are in my VFW chapter. We are currently taking the time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the events of the Vietnam War.
The Ia Drang Battle's 50th anniversary is coming up in November.
Trust me, the 90 year old WW2 vets aren't going to stop you from stepping forward and taking charge. All that's needed is the desire, the drive and the character to make it happen. It's a community service org, so, those who don't have a few hours a month for that sort of thing may not be interested.
The WW2 and Korean War vets are almost all gone now. The Vietnam Vets are in their late 60s and early 70s. Now is our time. This is our time to take charge.

OK, fine. Enjoy the RWB. There are chapters in Shreveport, Lafayette and Alexandria. Looks like a good org.
VFW is a community service org, not a sitting in a bar and drinking org. If you don't have a few hours a month to go to a meeting and do something for your community and local vets, VFW is not for you.

I just looked up my local chapter and the photos were... grim.
But they are having a fish fry and they're only a few blocks away. I might go eat and feel it out. I've moved since the last time I went so who knows.

Don't you have any buddies? Make them go with you. It's always better to have a posse.
The WW 1 vets are all gone. Soon the WW 2 vets will be all gone, along with the Korean War vets. The Vietnam Vets are old and tired.
It's time for the new vets to take charge. VFW has 1.4 million members. That's a nice size organization -- PERFECT size for a bunch of twenty-something year old combat vets to take over -- and re-shape the VFW into what you want it to be.
Don't want a Canteen so that you can have a beer after your 10k fundraising run? Fine. Close the Canteen (even though they make money for your chapter). Don't want smoking in the Canteen? Me neither. Make the smokers go outside.

Yeah but we're spread out all over the world. I don't live in my hometown.

"Trying to publicly call someone out and make a scene about something because you feel like they are stealing some attention that in your mind properly belongs to you is insecurity."
That's why you think veterans get upset? How stupid are you?

I miss my friends.
But, I made new friends as I became active and took officer positions in the VFW and DAV -- and some of my new friends are invalid combat vets that are residents at the War Vets Home that I linked earlier. I see them a couple of times a year. One of them was a WW2 vet that died a few months ago.
If my orgs were only about staying in the Canteen and drinking, they could not exist. In every organization, somebody has got to step forward and make the orgs operate. If you have meetings, where do you meet? Unless you meet at your home, you'll have to pay rent for a meeting place. If you want to donate money to help vets in need and homeless vets, how do you get that money? Somebody has to step forward, take charge and organize the fundraising activity.
If we aren't interested in all that, OK. But, if one day, nobody cares about veterans issues, it should be self-evident -- the reason why our community isn't aware of veterans issues--we can look in the mirror for the reason.

make a scene
There's no need to make a scene. We can take picture of the poser. Get some info from the poser in a friendly manner. Then we can go to the various groups that take action on the posers.
No need at all to make a scene, but, I understand that sometimes people lose their temper and make a scene.

Tell that to the Mothers, Fathers, sons, and daughters of the men and women "National guard" soldiers who have died in service to this country.

Wait?
Eddie is stolen valor?
I remember him being a pt patient when I worked at ospt back in 2009 and he claimed he was sf
Now that I think about it. He seemed kinda young to be medically retired and was having muscular problems but no amputations or anything.
This was five/six years ago.
He's probably fatter now

And yes he was walking when I saw him back in 09.
His degree pursuing at a&m sounded fishy. It all makes sense now

best comment I have seen on here in awhile
I'm not military but I've seen few posts about NG being joked about. Does the NG get looked down upon?

That Air Force uniform is the best
Posted on 9/27/15 at 10:34 pm to whit
I guess it's all unit dependent.
I went from active duty to reserve after my four years of active; the lack of discipline in the reserves was unreal.
Plenty of pc's with no name tape and other uniform discrepancies; no one said anything to them.
