I may be a simpleton but I take a simplistic view of the situation.1) We need them because they make so much of the stuff we need ,such as huge percentage of the medications we require.
2) They need us to buy all their shite
3) China plays the long game and they are patient. Our country is imploding and it’s just a matter of time before they can just take us over without firing a shot.

you can say that again
we maybe balkanizing but our economy is still the strongest in the world and is our military
#1) china needs us way way way more than we need them
#2) you think our economy is a house of cards...theirs is ours times a billion as far as house of cards goes

So you don’t think we’re in deep shite as a country?
We might have he strongest economy in the world but for how long?National debt up to 31 1/2 trillion dollars.
Biden’s first 2 years estimated 5-51/2 million illegal immigrants have entered the US ,how many more will it be before his term is up.How are we supposed to absorb that many mostly uneducated people-provide housing, healthcare ,educate and feed them.Schools all over are failing, large percentage of teachers don’t last 5 years in the profession.
.Certain percentage of them are criminals which is going to place further stress on law enforcement.Almost every city in US has shortage of police officers and finding it nearly impossible to recruit new ones.Crime is already getting out of control.
Over 100,000 drug overdose deaths last year ,most from fentanyl and it is still pouring in.Many of them would have turned out to be productive citizens someday if they hadn’t made the mistake of dabbling in drugs.
We might have a strong military because we put so much money into technology but our military leadership sucks, they all seem to be more interested in teaching CRT,diversity training and such. They are having severe difficulties in recruiting and are lowering their standards to fill the vacancies. That doesn’t bode well,it takes intelligent young people to excel in a techcentric military.More and more veterans, including myself, are discouraging their children and grandchildren from joining.
I’m sure the Chinese military is not concerned with pronouns and LBTGQ nonsense.I imagine if a Chinese soldier asked for a sex change operation he would quickly get a bullet in the head.
I stand by my concerns about our too high dependencey on China for critical meds and pharmaceutical ingredients.India makes a good many of our drugs but they are also dependent on China for the ingredients.
I am really concerned that our country,as we know it,won’t survive 2 more years of Biden.

I have 2 sons and a DIL that are pilots in the AF. One son and the DIL fly C-130s and the other son the E-3 Sentry AWACS. That old E-3 jet is a worn out POS (70% of the time they are broke). Congress waited too long to approve the new Boeing 737 AEW&C replacement (it will take 10 years to replace the old E-3s). The E-3 and C-130s are prime targets in hot wars, not good for them.

You join the military knowing full-well what you're getting in to. I was in boot camp a month after graduating high school, in Afghanistan a little over a year later.
It is completely different for parents with zero control over the situation. I remember when I called my mom and just said I am calling just to say I love you and she broke down. She had been lulled into a false sense of security in that I had joined a "peacetime" army. I couldn't tell her if or where I was going but she watched the news. After getting back it was just a few months later and I was headed to Desert Shield, she was better with that because it wasn't so abrupt. Despite both sides of my family having pretty much continuous military service going back to the Revolution it was still a bitter pill to swallow when it was her son.

Regardless of when you joined, you are still part of the armed forces. "Peacetime" turns into "wartime" really quick. I have zero sympathy for people who think they or their loved ones are just going to join, ride out a few years living in garrison, and reap the benefits of service.
I just have an issue with people bitching about relatives being deployed when they're in the military. It is an expectation at all times.

First, my son is an adult. He has the right to decide what to do with his life. He chose to be a Marine. And I’m proud of him.
Second, and to be clear, I didn’t bitch the first time he was deployed and won’t if he’s deployed to fight China. He’s a Marine. It’s his duty. And as a Marine, he’s spoiling for a fight.
Third, he is still my son. He’s my boy. If he goes then he does. But my heart goes where he does. I can pray for peace without crossing the line into “bitching,” don’t you think?

Nobody said you couldn't. Everyone hopes for that. But at the end of the day someone you're related to serving in the military shouldn't impact whether or not a war is valid, which you implied in the OP.

Does your child serving affect your view of a possible war with China? It does mine.
So you're saying your view would be different if you had no relatives serving? Thee but not for me, right?

I gotcha.
Well. I’m not in control of whether there is a war or not. I am very much in favor of keeping Chinese aggression in check. And I absolutely believe that at some point China will make a move on Taiwan. I’m certainly not naive and am no pacifist.
And FWIW, I think Berger is on the right path with Force 2025.
But I do love my son. So there’s that too. Guess there’s really no point here other than that.

did i say that? i just said our problems pale in comparisson to the rest of the western world and to china.
and im right. the two arent exclusive.

pretty much as long as we want. We are headed for an economic cliff but that will not be in a bubble. everyone else will go down just as far, thus we still will have the best.

you barking up the wrong tree assuming i approve of these things. anything but. i have posted on the poliboard since 2005 that our national guard and reserve unit active duty rotation should be along the border and it should be militirized. we shouldnt be building multiple bases in the middle of no where, all of our bases for the most part(sans strategic nuclear bases) should be along the coast and borders.

that has nothing to do with what we were talking about. and no most would not have been productive citizens

#1- crime is still much much lower than it was in the late 70s-1995. so stop with the hyperbole. now the appitite of the country to just allow it to happen has changed for sure and that is certainly concerning.
as a vet myself I just wanted to point out you have no clue wtf you are talking about and just spitting out Poliboard talking points. DO i like all the lgbwtf ever nonsense...no but stop acting like the everyday marine, ranger, infantry, naval pilot, drone pilot, etc are all in on that and somehow weaker than in years past, because its the opposite.
dont beleive everything you read on the internet
now of course i discourage my kids from joining unless they go to the academy. the whole point is to level up your family generation to generation.

that has dog shite to do with anything. again you are acting like a female allowing your emotions to control your actions
quote:

i agree 100% there and never said you were wrong, its a vulnerability. but as much as we depend on them, they depend on us much much more which was the point
quote:
I am really concerned that our country,as we know it,won’t survive 2 more years of Biden.
dude come on, stop living on emotion. is our country in good shape? hell no, and our economy is headed off a cliff.....but those things are realitive. Still will be the best country in the world to live
i dont like many of the things going on either but.....
the best thing you could do would be to stop watching the news, get off the poliboard, frankly the OT too. focus on your family and your hobbies and control what you can control and stop letting things that your cant control cause undo stress on you mentally.
with that said, im prolly more right wing than 99% of the poliboard and in many ways would be almost considered a libertarian with the amount of small government i advocate for. difference compared to many on the poliboard is i dont flip flop on issues cause Trump whips his dick out and says do this anti-conservative thing. either you have principles and you follow them or you are no different than a liberal.

This is what I am reading/hearing too.
I think they’d try blockade and siege on Taiwan.

Why do self-hating Americans say this shite?
China is in the worst position they've been in for 50 years.
Their population is dying out, their economic growth was built on a pile of sand (real estate), and they have nowhere near the military or economic strength that the US does.

My dad served in Viet Nam and discouraged me my entire life from ever joining the miliary for this very reason. The US has not been involved in a meaningful conflict since WW2

That conclusion comes from a rigorous extraction process of notions long digested and passed through numerous processes and filters.
In other words, I pulled it straight out of my arse.

I'm retired Army (22years). Both my sons are in an infantry unit and deployed to Iraq and Syria in 2020-2021. Momma was a wreck. Do I worry? Of course I do, but I'll tell anybody, "somebody has to do it". That hipster, snowflake candy arse working as a barista at Starbucks isn't going to keep the wolf from the door.
