It is time for LSU to give up its live tiger mascot. It is barbaric and horrible what they are doing to such a noble animal.

No there really was one ... sometime around mid-late 90s. I remember a girl from work being able to "pet and play" with him ... he truly was a pup.

That is a straight up lie.
Mike VI was 200+ lbs when they got him.
How does that refute what he said?

Exxon Plant and its air emissions take another victim.

I see you already edited and everyone has already called you out, but for posterity:

The Louisiana State University tiger mascot, Mike VI, was born July 23, 2005, and came to LSU when he was two years old. At the time of his arrival at LSU, he weighed 320 pounds.

Damn, that's a beautiful animal.

28...the picture I have was an event at the vet school I think. I was 12ish. They must've been taking care of another tiger that was young.
I'll have to ask my dad
Back to the captivity thing. Tigers can't be released into the wild once they're born into captivity right? So if LSU is just giving captive tigers a better life and not breeding them, I don't see how anyone could ever have an issue.

Damn. We had just gotten him when I was a freshman. I don't know the typical lifespan. This seems too young.

Poor Mike. No majestic animal like him deserves the pain of cancer. But this
When we are at a time that our state and university have no funding, is it appropriate to probably spend huge amounts of money to extend the life of a tiger perhaps 1-2 years at best?

without treatment Mike VI could live 1-2 months; with treatment, perhaps 1-2 years.

You're going to need better bait.

Yea might have been a tiger from the zoo.

Sorry to hear it guys. They're majestic creatures. Makes you wonder if death with dignity (euthanasia) will be the way to go eventually.

This is a joke, right? It's like the animal rights activists that try and stop big game hunting. Without hunters paying to hunt the animals, their value is basically nothing. With hunters paying to hunt the animals, their value is enough economically to conserve the species. And yet animal rights activists would rather the species go extinct than allow people to pay 10s of thousands of dollars to hunt them.

LSU link says wild tiger life span is 8-10 years. Mike is pushing 11 right now with another couple of possible years.

People in PETA aren't known for their logical thought processes.
Anybody know any tigers in the wild that have an HMO that allows them to receive radiation therapy for cancer?

This is probably 1990. Different tiger though.

I'm sure donations can cover the costs and it can be used as a really big educational opportunity for the vet school.
