I’ve tried a bunch of different remedies but the one that works for me is Fioricet - it’s a combo of Tylenol, caffeine, and a barbiturate. I will still get the hungover/groggy feeling the next day but it pretty much knocks out the headache. I take them as soon as I get the aura.

I get the aura, then the left side of my face and left arm goes completely numb. It is scary even after having them for 15 years. I always freak out that this is the time I go full stroke.
ETA
I also take metoprolol daily.

I have fioricet. It helps but it doesn’t knock it out.

If you take too much sumatriptan you’ll have to go to the ER and get the cocktail to “reset” your brain.
I don’t know why it works but it does.

Do you have any triggers you know of? Like, red wine or some such. An old coworker used to get migraines and had no clue the sulfites were kicking her arse. No expert here but the topic intrigues me.

I put most of my patients with presumed migraines on Magnesium oxide (400mg) daily. You can get it over the counter. Side effect is that it can make you too regular if you know what I mean. I've had good success with that alone and for a lot of people that's all they need. Otherwise I go down the road of adding riboflavin and considering prophylactics: nortriptyline, verapamil, etc.
You do have to be careful with fiorcet. It's a nice drug for some headaches, but it can also actually cause headache with prolonged continuous use.

Zomig does work for me if it is a true migraine. Most people have no idea what a migraine actually is. This medicine is not for those people and it’s best to only take when you can lie down. I have a TBI from multiple IED explosions and taking shrapnel to the head from an RPG. This medicine works for me. Side effects do suck but screw a migraine.

I suffered from chronic migraines for several years. They finally lessened to sporadically after going through a few medications and finding one that works. I was about at wits end by the time we finally got them under control. They're brutal. Low dose Amitriptyline works for me.
They also tried me on Sumatriptan and topiramate. Topiramate is the devil. 0/10 experience.

Hey Ted. All of the girls on my wife’s maternal side get them. As far as treatment goes ask your doctor about butalbitol. That worked for her for awhile and isn’t an expensive prescription. She’s since moved on from them but that’s because she’s very very sensitive to medications in general. Other than that she’s spent a lot of time learning what triggers them. Alcohol and eye strain are the biggies she has to watch out for. Good luck.

Nothing like lecturing on the Constitutional development and history of the Republic while wanting to rip your head off and having to go puke every 40 minutes

1. Get a primary doctor
2. Get a Rx for Rizatriptan
Common brands: Maxalt-Mlt, Maxalt
It's a hassle to get a primary dr., appointment, etc...but worth it

I used to have migraines. Imitrex worked for me. I did have one very bad persistent headache. Turned out to be meningitis. See your doctor.
