A four-bedroom house in Highland Park designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright that is at risk of demolition sold Tuesday for $687,500.

Built in 1906 for rare-book dealer George Madison Millard, the Prairie-style home sits on a 0.66-acre lot just a block from Lake Michigan in east Highland Park and is best known for its 68 original art glass windows. The National Park Service added the house to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

BTW, the old LSU President's house on Lakeshore is either a FLW or more likely a pretty damn good copy.

The house on Sherwood Forest, next to the old golf course (Old Hammond). Flat roof, ugly as hell. Dated a guy who lived there for a year. Weird fricking house. Huge place, 4 br, 5 bathrooms (all toilets were attached to the wall not the floor), two courtyards. It was rumored that there are diamonds buried on the property, the FBI raided and found some but not all. No idea the validity of the story. Some guy named Pearson was involved. Anyway, I absolutely hated the house. It felt sterile and creepy, no charm. It looked like a 60's drug den.

I like some of the MCM elements and my house lends itself to a nice MCM aesthetic if I chose to go that direction. I appreciate the variety to architecture and style it brings to housing, and I find them enjoyable to hang out in but too uncomfortable for me to live in.

I think flat roofs in LA or other heavy rain areas are trouble waiting to happen. The elements I most enjoy are the walls of glass and open concept.

I admire those who continue to keep the history going including acquiring the furniture. I do find it to be one of the more difficult styles to intermix with other pieces as MCM pieces look best when one goes "all in". I have been noticing a bit of a resurgence in stores for this look, specifically crate and barrel. You may want to look around on Etsy as well. I saw some quality workmanship there in the MCM style.

There were two near Newman in old Metry. A protege of Frank Lloyd Wright did them. My sister had one of them. They both flooded several times and the flat roofs were nightmares to live with in NOLA.
