They did say “no longer business critical or smart.”
I’m not opposed to a slower phase out. In fact, it’s probably smarter to not dump the entire initiative immediately, in the court of public opinion.

The company promised to invest $150 million in diversity and inclusion, including doubling “the number of Black and African American people managers, senior individual contributors, and senior leaders in the United States by 2025.”

It says A DEI team, not all of them

Oh lord. No one reads the articles.
For real. Even the headline clearly stated that Microsoft fired "A" DEI team. They probably have several.

they will probably still pursue the same nonsense though. HR can do it without a specific team, unfortunately
Yeap…

Still, Microsoft says its commitments to diversity and inclusion “remain unchanged.” “Our focus on diversity and inclusion is unwavering and we are holding firm on our expectations, prioritizing accountability, and continuing to focus on this work,” Microsoft spokesperson, Jeff Jones told BI in a statement.

DEI has always stood for Divisiveness, Exclusion & Insanity. Glad to see companies reconsidering their DEI programs.
The proper acronym is DIE

It works in jobs were talent is not required. It's why this theory works in government.
No it doesn't. People think it does because "muh, government employee lazy/stupid", but in reality, it's stupid hires based on criteria other than knowledge, skills, and abilities that has degraded the government--along with the self-righteous assholes that think because they hold a government position that they can do and make people do whatever they want because "me government, you peasant".
Hell, just look at the way the SS detail for Trump, with all of those women, performed in the heat of the moment. Absolutely pitifully.

Note what you do NOT see: anything to create diversity or inclusion. One problem identified was that committees were overloaded with older white males. Easy fix: appoint qualified women/minorites on the committee next time there is an opening. This is never mentioned anywhere.
I see minorities and women all over DEI boards. It’s basically a cottage industry for them.
The real thing you never, is why we need DEI. Real concrete reasons why white guys are no longer acceptable. Actual specific data that shows having a bunch of white guys is a detriment. You never see that. You just see platitudes that make no sense.

Press release issued.
Next quarter, a new team with a new name (and new initials) will be put together that will coincidentally have a very similar, but reworded, mission statement.

Nah, I went to school with a bull dike who runs one of their DEI programs and LinkedIn still shows her gainfully employed and posting clown world jargon daily.
