Says the guy who keeps malding that you can't have both salary and OT when I have worked at TWO firms that offer both.

You are probably bald now with all the malding you have done in this thread boomer.

This is so tiresome, yet so predictable. Yes, because what i'm saying is that you should abuse your salaried personnel because you don't have to pay them hourly.

I shouldn't have to explain it like i'm talking to a child. I thought some of my previous posts would have clarified that, especially when i talked of hiring someone and telling them they'd occasionally have to work over 40, but that it wasn't the norm, and the response was "well i expect to be fairly compensated for that". (FWIW, we didn't hire him).

The abuse i took starting out, probably isn't the norm anymore. That was 17 years ago. I worked long hours was expected to come in Saturdays regardless if i finished all my work. I did that for 4 years before i got fed up and quit and went to work somewhere else. The company i work for has many company meetings about this, recognizing you can push people the way you used to. The problem is, NO ONE wants to even work, int he first place. You can't find kids to work a standard 40 hours anymore, forget asking them to work over 40, maybe 2 - 4 weeks out of the year.

I am, and it's not limited to any 1 industry. I'm finally in a position now where I can take my sweet time finding a career, and I absolutely will.

In the meanwhile, there are a lot of positive things I can do for my current employer that will look good on me and set up the next man in my chair to succeed.

But when you quit your lucrative trade and return to college only to graduate in the fallout of the housing crisis, the next decade+ will teach you to be pretty fricking jaded about the American dream and less tolerant of the dogma from the "pay your dues" crowd.

I'm sorry, did you take my comment about working hourly/salary as "talking tough"? That's pretty pathetic.

I just hired 2 this summer. Both have been great so far.

We also gave them a truck, gas card, all benefits, and $20k over what anyone else was offering.

They seem happy.

I was at a point in my career where i considered quiting and starting my own business because i got tired of the bullshite. This was after being laid off from a company i was with for 6-7 years. I was pretty jaded and had the mindset, and still do, that the reason there is no job loyalty, is because the companies weren't loyal to their workers. Until i found the job i currently have.

Despite all of that, working more than 40 hours a week was never an issue to me, because i knew in the end it would pay off. And i knew this is what i had to do when i started off.

You may as well be.

I love that because I don't agree with your thinking I must be a child.

It's impossible to take you seriously when you post bullshite like this.

ETA: I'd just downvote too

Congratulations! I'm not being sarcastic, i mean it. It's hard finding good kids straight out of college. We are still searching.

Malding is a portmanteau of mad and balding.

You are very mad in this thread.

No, because you believe if i don't agree with your take, then i must be the extreme polar opposite, corporate culture, abuse them until they quit, and those that want to be here will stay, types. It's tiring to have to spoon feed you the nuance of normal people.

Again, you want me to spoon feed you. Start replying to other people, you are tiring.

to what end? You got promoted? Good. I am glad you got the position you want.

why?

Is all your extra time at the office worth it in the long run?

If you died tomorrow how long would it take them to forget about you.

Would your kids wish they had spent more time with you?

just because you are a retard doesn't mean the rest of society has to work for free or show up on Saturdays to stick their thumb up their butt.

I'll take that as a complement. I work with "boomers" and they are vital to our company.
